1. As long as Oklahomans come up with people like Inhofe...
...I don't have much hope in this regard. Better to spend the resources on Arkansas or West Virginia, which at least at one time were swing states.

2. I was born and lived in Oklahoma for 30 years
I have family and ties there. But Oklahoma has no chance of becoming a swing state. Tulsa area is dominated by christian evangelicals and Oklahoma City area is dominated by the Daily Oklahoman, perhaps the most rightwing newspaper in America. Education is what the Sooners need and attracting more liberals by starting up high tech jobs to bring them in. If you get rid of the dumbest US senator in the country named James Inhoffe, I will know you have made some small progress.

7. Bingo.
Education is what the Sooners need and attracting more liberals by starting up high tech jobs to bring them in.

That's been my dream for awhile now. The jobs don't necessarily need to be high tech, either. It's reasonably cheap to live here and if we can move some folks here with any type of creative employment, things will change. Slowly, but they will change.

3. I've lived here for 4 years.
I don't know that it's possible. Norman, which is the town that the University of Oklahoma is in, is the liberal dot in a sea of red. Once, decades ago, Oklahoma was a socialist stronghold. Not anymore. But I have to say I think that the state is in better shape than it was 4 years ago. It's not much better off though.

4. Maybe 5 liberals in Norman, the rest moderates
People think Norman is liberal just because the rest of the state is so far right, the latest Oklahoma poll has McCain ahead of Obama 56 to 24. That may be the largest McCain lead in the nation. Some stupid so called democrat was quoted in the Tulsa World saying he believes Obama is the anti-christ and will usher in armageddon. Oklahoma continues to be a laughing stock that will never change without a massive increase in education and religion is put in its proper place with other myths and superstitions. Won't happen in my lifetime nor my childrens lifetime.

5. Just thought I'd let everyone know that Andrew Rice, a Democrat,
is gaining traction against Jim Inhofe. He's just 9 points behind Inhofe in polling right now, and gaining on him every day. This is a better showing than any Dem in recent history who has dared to challenge Inhofe.

http://andrewforoklahoma.com/

Rice is a good looking young family man, who lost a Brother on 9/11. We'll never get rid of the Republicans in this state if we stop trying. Oklahoma has a Democratic Governor, and Tulsa has a Democratic Mayor. I'm seeing lots of Obama bumper stickers in Tulsa right now, and very few McCain stickers. Yard signs are about 2 to 1 in Obama's favor.

So, Oklahoma isn't necessarily a lost cause. But it will be with attitudes like the ones in this thread. Lots of us here are fighting every day to get rid of the GOP powers that be in this state. A little support and encouragement is always appreciated.

6. Heaven forbid Okla. vote in someone smart with a heart

like Andrew Rice. The general citizens of this State can drive a Dem nuts with their logic. I had one angry discussion in my living room not many weeks ago between about 4 Dems and one Repub who admitted she didn't read much about politics but for sure wanted repubs to control as they understood how bad our tax situation was under Dems. Ugh. It got so bad I had to leave the room. She followed me in there and tried to make nice but still continued to state her case. I pretty much ignored her (politely) as she was more than a bit tipsy and looking for more argument. Sometimes it's best to let these low info people rant until even they seem to wonder if they haven't gotten a bit radical. Okla. is so much fun politically, choke. If its not religion that gets them haired up it is taxes.

My trip to the polls will be more fun this time as I can at least vote for someone that "might" win, Andrew Rice. Like when we got our Dem Governor!! What a shock.

P.S. There is a fairly large group of kids at OU that are die-hard Democrats that are very active. This is encouraging.
