I was born and raised in Portland and would really like to come back home. My background is in the Printing Indy, Business Development, and Customer Service Mgmt. If you hear of any jobs available, please PM me. Thanks for your help.

1. There are jobs, but be prepared to fight for them
With about an 8% unemployment rate, Oregon is something of an employer's market right now. It's worse in the rural, bush-voting part of the state, but Portland is a tough sell too. Even Intel is on a hiring freeze now. You'll want to have inside connections before you start looking, and a nest egg to fall back on if things go sour.

Good luck!

3. I just spent a year-and-a half unemployed
I was a customer service supervisor for 12 years before that. Now I'm working for less than half in a temp job.

It's tough to find a job in Portland. Great city, no good jobs.

Bring cash, and you'll be welcomed! :) But having a decent job lined up is a good idea. Good luck.

4. State of Oregon
Go to the State website - www.oregonjobs.gov. The State of Oregon has openings for applicants with management skills as they are loosing lots of managers to retirement. You may just find something you are interested in.

5. It's an odd situation here right now.
The job market is definitely on the upswing, but so many people love living here that there's still a lot of competition for work. Many people who were laid off years ago, stayed on because they don't want to live anywhere else, and now they're looking for full-time work, too, after years of doing whatever they could to make ends meet, or of going back to school. Anyway, the other part of the Portland job scene is that contacts mean everything now. Check Craig's List for jobs. There seem to be more of them listed there than anywhere else.
