ESTACADA, Ore. -- Police said an Estacada man intentionally ran over a neighbor’s sleeping dog in front of the pet’s frantic teenaged owners because he was angry the animal was loose.

Raymond Earl Weaver faces animal abuse charges for allegedly running over a 10-year-old male Labrador/Cocker Spaniel mix on a private roadway at 25550 S. Windy Hill Road before noon on Sunday.

“Angry over the dog being off leash, it appears that Mr. Weaver intentionally ran over Grizz,” said deputy Joel Manley, with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office. “After Mr. Weaver ran over Grizz, he repeatedly struck the dog with his driver side rear tire as two of Grizz's teenage girl owners frantically tried pulling him out from under the vehicle.”

Weaver was arrested and transported to the Clackamas County Jail where bail was set at $15,000.
...not much more at link.

I heard an interview on the radio with the teenage girls' mother. It was heartbreaking. They were working in the garage when they heard the dog cry out in pain. The girls rushed out first, then the parents heard the girls screaming and ran out to the horrific sight of the family pet being repeatedly backed over by a car. Weaver didn't just "repeatedly strike" the dog, he ran over the dog, rocking the tire back and forth over the dog's back while the girls were screaming and trying to pull the dog out from underneath the car. The dog had to be euthanized.

This man wasn't just "angry", he is seriously sick. The maximum sentence he can receive is a $125,000 fine and five years in jail. If he would do that to a defenseless, sleeping dog, what is he capable of doing to a human being who he is angry with?
:(:(:(

5. My local dog group is trying to set up an off-leash dog park
We're also promoting responsible dog care: we scold people who don't pick up after their dogs or bring them to the park when they don't have them under reasonable voice or gesture control.

But you should see the hostility. . . .

My little guy is currently off brightening the lives of some dogless college students.

12. The former president of the ornithology society supports our park
He says it was already degraded habitat before we had any interest in it. There's good bird habitat adjacent to it, but we keep our dogs out of that area. There's been some discussion of a fence between; I don't think anyone in the dog group objects because it would just makes it that much easier to keep the dogs out of that area.

If the park were official, we could post signs saying things like "No Dogs Allowed Here! Bird Habitat!" That's one of the reasons we're trying to legalize.

8. Man's Inhumanity
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 09:04 PM by Greylyn58
to each other and to the creatures around him/her has stopped surprising me.

Cruelty seems to be the rule of the day right now. I just wish we would raise the penalty these people have to face. This man for me should be locked away. His cruelty, especially with the two girls right there just sickens me.

If he did this to a dog he is quite capable of doing it to a human.

God...:nuke:

:grr:

13. A freeper killed my dog
He hit him with his truck one afternoon when our lawn guy had left the back gate open. My partner had no idea our dog could get out. I was just coming home from work and saw my baby killed right in front of me.

I don't remember much after the accident. I remember kneeling in the street and just screaming. Some of our neighbors had to pick me up and carry me into our house. I didn't know the bastard who killed my baby dog, but I knew he had a Freerepublic bumpersticker - that's how I found FR.com, and later DU. And I found the guy that killed me dog. He owns a rental property in our neighborhood. But that's a story for another time.

I feel so terrible for these girls. I think that we should e-mail the Clackamas county prosecutor and urge him/her to pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law. This man should not be allowed out
until he has paid for his crime and gone through extensive counseling. I believe the poster that voiced concern over what he would do to a human was correct- this is a sick, sick man who is a danger to society.
