Area Health Education Centers, which provide rural health education and training in five locations around the state, get all of their $1.3 million from the state. Those centers could be scaled back dramatically. OHSU's hospitals and clinics receive $7.5 million in state support -- just over 1 percent of their $623 million operating budget. But nearly all of the state funding goes to pay for indigent care. Thomson said OHSU, which provides twice the amount of care to those who can't pay for it as the average Oregon hospital, may have to cut back deeply in that area.
Some programs at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center depend heavily on state funding. Those treating spina bifida; genetic, feeding and cranio-facial disorders; high-risk infants; special education and social work could be eliminated."--------------------
