Trip To Ireland May Have Violated Ethics Rules
Oregon Sen. Gordon Smith's office said Wednesday it is reviewing a 2003 trip to Ireland to determine if a lobbyist paid for it - as Senate records indicate.

If the records are accurate, the trip by Smith and four other Republican lawmakers would violate ethics rules that bar lobbying firms from paying for trips taken by members of Congress.

1. Gordon, Gordon, Gordon...I never voted for ya, but thought you'd do better
than this. Guess I'll wait to see his reponse and try to withhold harsh judgement till then. Why do I always think Oregonians will prove themselves better than this? Does being from the greatest state in the union mean nothing? Whoops--just remembered Wes Cooley and Bob Packwood. Ah, well, the mighty do fall now and again, with very loud thumps! Just have to keep thinking "Tom McCall, Wayne Morse..." Not many men to match our mountains left anymore!

2. Not surprising to find multiple pigs at the feeding trough
or that Pea Packer is one of the pigs.

In his favor are about fourteen months to let this issue fade from the public consciousness before he seriously campaigns for re-election. His staff is already working diligently to minimize the damage.
