Been to the DEQ and had your car fail?
You had to pay hundreds for repairs, you take it back and it fails again?!

Here in Portland apparently you can go to a different station, and get a different result. How handy!

Dr. Gary Adams is a frequent visitor to DEQ test centers and each time his car failed, he took it to his mechanic to fix the problem. However, his mechanic said the car should pass and told him to try a different DEQ test station.

In all, Adams failed seven times at one station and passed six out of six at other stations, which he says is proof that drivers are not getting accurate DEQ results

However, Kevin Brahnam, who says he was in charge of testing DEQ's equipment for more than four years, says that is not true. He showed KATU News the EPA manual that the DEQ is supposed to follow and said several steps were either done wrong or not at all.

"There's a calibration that never works right and we more or less cheat our way through it and pretty much go in and change the coefficients on the math formula to make it work," he said.
