Need downtown Italian restaurant recommendations
I will be in Portland in August, staying at the Hilton on Sixth St., and need to arrange an event for about 12 people at an Italian restaurant that is fairly close to the hotel. Any suggestions?

1. Pazzo isn't too far and is quite good

Alessandro's is also pretty good

More of a hike, but I love Mamma Mia Trattoria

Gee, I wish they were still open for lunch.

There is a Tuscan restaurant right in the newer of the two Hilton buildings called Porto Terra, and their chef is great, but I'm not sure of the status of the place for dinner. Hilton management got really flaky on them and announced they were going to close the restaurant, but I think they may have reopened. The happy hour menu at Porto Terra is great, by the way, especially the Pizza. Yes, I have a drink there now and then, as I work about a block away.

3. Shoot me a PM when you get to town if you have time for a drink.
And if you need anything else, lemme know.

6. We've been to Alessandro's before the symphony. Good food and nice atmosphere.
BTW, Bistro 921, in the Hilton, is pretty good. You'll probably get there during your stay.

The Hilton was our anchor when we made the move from Boston to Portland. We spent at least a couple of weeks there while interviewing for jobs.

The pool, with its view of the sky, is also delightful, as is the hot tub.

Let me know if I can do anything for you!

In peace,

7. Anybody know about Pastini's? I've been curious and hate paying too much
for crappy Italian.

8. We met Swag for a drink and it was great!
(Actually 2 drinks, and he knows all the names of the bartenders!)

Also, the recommendation for Mamma Mia was fantastic; that was where we went and we had a lovely dinner with our friends. They put us in a kind of room with curtains, very cozy.
