26 outlaw bikers crash on Oregon freeway
Source: MSNBC

WILSONVILLE, Ore. - More than two dozen motorcycles crashed on a freeway in Oregon on Friday, blocking traffic for hours, police said.

Oregon State Police said the bikers were behind a car when traffic unexpectedly slowed in the northbound lanes on Interstate 5.

Lt. Mike Towner, of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, said emergency crews arrived at the scene to find “ordered mayhem.”

Most of the victims belonged to the Brother Speed motorcycle club, officials said. The Oregonian reported that the group is identified by the state's Department of Justice as an outlaw biker gang.

4. What you find in preschools and large groups of bikers who have crashed.
In the preschool, we called it "organized chaos".

u can avoid collisions. sounds like they were not leaving enuff space between them to allow for unexpected occurrences.

8. Can't Tell From The Article...
I wonder if it was a matter of all the cars on the interstate slowing down for some form of obstruction or if it was a matter of the bikers running up on traffic trying to intimidate someone into giving way and the car driver freaked out and got hard on the brakes causing the pile-up. I can see how either scenario could play out.

15. my impression of Oregon drivers
is that they're afraid of speed. I don't think the state speed limit is over 55 mph anywhere in the state (it's 65 or 70 in most of California), and I always feel like I'm crawling through the place, usually behind people who are going 5mph under the limit just to be on the safe side.

Of course, I could just be remembering the frustrating ones.

18. The interstates are 60 to 65 when
you're outside of the densely populated urban areas. Most of the drivers do not go under the speed limit, but there are enough of them to drive you crazy at times.

19. Wrongo, the speed limit on I-5 and elsewhere is 65
in most places. I live in Eugene, Oregon, and an aversion to speeding is nowhere to be seen.

We just had a kid in fact die on the first day of his motorcycle endorsement on his way to play video games with a friend. Very often, too often, people go too damn fast.

21. Heh.
In my area, the limits are usually 45mph. Even on the highways, until you get out of town.

Winter ice is one reason. Deer are another.

I counted on my way home Friday night; a total of 17 deer in 4 different places, all close by the side of the road. None crossed in front of me that trip, but they regularly do just that.

I like it slower. I usually identify impatient drivers who tailgate or insist on passing cars who have the effrontery to do the speed limit as new immigrants from more impatient places. ;)

9. Just what is an outlaw biker?
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 12:30 PM by DavidDvorkin
Are they outlaws in the same sense that Little George Bush was a cowboy?

13. After A Quick Google....
Brother Speed is a true outlaw club. 1%ers. Usually associated with drugs, prostitution and various other criminal acts.

They are much more outlaw than Bush is cowboy.

14. I see. Thanks.
I have the impression that there are people who dress in leather and ride motorcycles and wear bandannas or Nazi-looking helmets and then consider themselves outlaws. Suburban middle class outlaws. But I guess that doesn't apply to these guys.

22. Basically, a criminal on a motorcycle.
I know some of these guys, including a (past) leader, from when I lived in the area.
I did not ever see or hear or know of any criminal conduct by the club though.
Of course, in OR, smoking it is a misdemeanor.
