72% Oregon Voter Turnout Preditcted
Secretary of State Kate Brown is saying she expects 72% turnout. This would be the highest turnout in a non Presidential election in Oregon since 1990. Sounds good to me. I love Kate Brown!

1. Proud to be
part of that 72%, and if it actually happens, even prouder to be an Oregonian.

2. meanwhile, at my house . . .
I have family members who are refusing to vote because they are afraid they will be called for jury duty if they do.

I am so angry that my lips are numb and my teeth hurt.

3. Tell them that jury duty isn't based exclusively on voter rolls.
In Multnomah county, they use DMV records in conjunction with voter rolls. If you have a driver's license, you're in the jury pool.

5. I think that being in both though does increase your odds...
They should probably fix that though so that whether you are registered for one thing or another you only in effect have one entry in the jury pool to make it an equal access system.

6. We're in Clackamas County, but I have told them that.
I ALWAYS vote, and I've only been called for jury duty once.

4. I had jury duty the day before I had a job interview here in Oregon...
The trial potentially was going to continue through the next day. Though the judge didn't excuse me for that, when I got put in a jury slot, ultimately one of the attorneys challenged me off nicely I think, because he knew that it could make a difference to getting me a job. I did ultimately get a job from that interview too after being unemployed for a year.

I can understand a little the frustration that many people have with that potentially cutting in to their valuable time, but ultimately I feel the need to vote as a citizen. As in my case, ultimately things will work out for the better for those who choose the right way.

8. The only time I got called, I was able to postpone.
I had mandatory job training and when I called, I asked if I could postpone it to the following week. They agreed and moved my summons back by a week, and the job training was cancelled anyway.
