Thank you Portland! 4,000 gather on a cold rainy night in soldarity.
(cross-posted in GLBT)

Last week in Portland, 2 gay men were savagely beaten for daring to hold hands while walking across the bridge. Last night, more than 4,000 people of all identities joined hands on the bridge in solidarity. It was a cold wet night, but the love on the bridge was a tangible thing, and kept everyone warm.

There were straights and gays, kids in strollers and elders in wheelchairs. There were real nuns and drag queen nuns. There were people holding hands with their sweety, and people holding hands with complete strangers. There were college athletes and college professors, all coming out to say that love will always be bigger and stronger than hate.

It was a truly amazing event, I wish you could have been there. Sometimes something like this reminds me not to give up hope.
