Poll question: Who are you going to vote for in Portland's mayoral race?
I'm voting for Jefferson Smith, and if you have a few minutes, check out his awesome TED talk.

1. Not
Mike Reese. I think he has torpedoed his future in Portland politics. He should be a pariah going forward, hopefully not just in politics but in general.

After that, Jefferson smith is the only one I know anything about, and I did enjoy his little masterpiece, as well as having found him intelligent in person.

in brief reading up on the others, it looks like we win anywhich way we go except of RatBastard Reese. Brady face books about Occupy and same sex marriage. I didn't notice anything immediately objectionable about hales, but I didn't really read much past the front page of his campaign site.

2. weak field
I viewed the speech. Pretty lame. Is he suggesting that if I'm fed up with the incessant noise of boom cars and illegally loud mufflers (which I am) that the police do nothing about, that I should take matters into my own hands? What's government and the police there for? I will vote for a candidate that vows to force the police to enforce the anti-noise laws that exist, and even further, creating 'Quiet Neighborhood Zones' where fines will double for noise violations.

What I've read of Smith is that he's appealing to the PC yuppies. I would expect more laws restricting personal freedom that affect no one, in the name of some PC ideals, the New Puritanism. And of course bikes, bikes, bikes - getting in the way of the motorized transportation that makes the city work. Bikes are frivolous.

It's such a weak field that Sam could have won reelection.

3. I've been interested in Elieen Brady, who is one of the founders of New Seasons grocery here...

She's pretty progressive and has also been involved with sustainability and Ecotrust as noted in this article on her.

I certainly want to know more about the others she's facing though to make sure we make the right choice.

But I think she's quite opposite the CEO of Whole Foods, who New Seasons actually had some legal battles with when Whole Foods tried to get their financial records to "prove" that they weren't starting a monopoly in this area when they bought out Wild Oats chain. Of course, many others would be concerned that them giving that financial data would in fact give Whole Foods a monopoly advantage by knowing more about their company than they should. That prompted a boycott of Whole Foods even before the boycott later when Whole Foods CEO was brain damaged in his statements about health care. From the article here, it sounds like she's also concerned about health care policy, though its not real specific about her stances here.

I shop at New Seasons all of the time and they are a nicely run food chain here that's a good alternative to the more corporate grocery stores and to Whole Foods.
