Wow! Our school district actually voted to

"throw the bums out"! Four incumbent directors were defeated by a group of citizens who formed an alliance to keep one of the elementary schools from being closed.

I love it! Power to the people!

Were there any surprises in your towns/districts across the Commonwealth?

1. Philadelphia...

The big surprises were that Nutter actually won, Knox (a rich nobody) came in 2nd, and Fattah (the long-assumed favorite) came in 4th.

Not surprisingly, Milton Street came in almost last for his bid for City Council. The mayor's son, Sharif Street, did not win either. On Council, 3 incumbents lost (Juan Ramos, Carol Campbell, Dan Savage) and Bill Green, son of the former mayor, won.

Unfortunately, Darnell Jones lost his bid for Supreme Court. I voted for him and McCaffery.

4. There were some upsets on the Pittsburgh City Council, too.

This must be a bad year for incumbents across PA. I didn't hear what the turn-out was statewide, but it seems that those who did vote were well-informed and motivated.

because there's no way Willis Berry should've got as many votes as he did for Supreme Court if people actually paid attention to that race and knew who they were voting for.

Most people base their votes for those races on the gender, surname, and county of the candidates. If it was about qualifications, Darnell Jones wouldn't have lost.

3. Reading one of few districts that approved tax

Reading was one of a very few school districts where voters approved an increase in the wage tax. It was defeated in every other school district in the southeastern quadrant of the State, at least.

5. That is a surprise! It was pretty soundly defeated all around SW PA.

I read that it averaged about 75% "no" votes in this area.

6. Bristol Borough Also

I believe only 4 or 5 districts approved it - Reading and Bristol Borough were the only two in southeastern PA.
