Police: Pa. man shot for making noise during movie

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man enraged by a noisy family sitting near him in a movie theater on Christmas night shot the father of the family in the arm, police said.

James Joseph Cialella, 29, of Philadelphia, told the man's family to be quiet, then threw popcorn at the man's son, police said. The victim told police that Cialella was walking toward his family when he stood up and was shot.

Detectives called to the United Artists Riverview Stadium theater in South Philadelphia found Cialella carrying the weapon, a .380-caliber handgun, in his waistband, police said.

Cialella faces six charges that include attempted murder and aggravated assault. He remained in custody Saturday. Police said bail had been set, but they did not know the amount.

It is just very sad.

I can kinda empathize with this guy. When you pay todays rates to see a fucking movie you'd like to think the least the theater can do is guarantee you right to watch it in silence.

Obviously I'm not condoning shooting people in movie theaters (even rude loud mouthed asshole type people) but the theaters need to do a better job of enforcing their own rules.

You don't confront other people these days as they will go off on you. Get up and find a manager. We've done it once before and the person was tossed from the room (others were complaining about this group, too). Once I saw someone else complain and when he was thrown out people were clapping!

that an unreported (by CNN) part of this story is that the mother in this family is saying that they were talking about that movie, and that this is America, so she has the right to talk.

Not condoning shooting over this, but sometimes it's hard to get outraged....

The audience is usually less obnoxious than the management, which usually turns the volume up to ear-splitting levels and spews out advertisements before the movie starts. Why should I have to endure advertisements (including "trailers") after paying for a ticket?

Fuck the theaters.

I'll watch movies at home, using a DVR or DVD player.

Sometimes, I think I will stand up and just start screaming in the movie theater ... the cell phones, the texting, the people talking loudly like they're in their living rooms ... all after I've paid 9 bucks to see AND HEAR the movie. Nicely asking someone to whisper doesn't always work. I've had people make rude remarks to me ... as if it's their God-given right to ruin my moviegoing experience.

Makes me crazy.

I'd never get violent in any way ... but sometimes I get movie-theater rage.

There are too many punks and assholes that like to kick seats. Not to mention, most movies these days suck and the prices are jacked.

I'll stick to my DVDs.

When I do go to the movies, I sit in the back row.
