<snip.
ST. MARYS — The 137-year-old Straub Brewing Co. is starting a new tradition: canned beer.

The family-owned brewery based in St. Marys began putting its brew in 12-ounce cans for the first time on Monday. Straub’s beer is still bottled and put in kegs in St. Marys, but its beer is being canned at the High Falls Brewery in Rochester, N.Y.

Straub’s sales and marketing manager, Joseph McMackin, says Straub’s has seen its sales increase in Pennsylvania, especially among younger drinkers.

By packaging the been in 24-can packages, customers can take the beer with them to more activities.
<snip>

I really like Straub beer, but only on tap or in the green bottles (brown bottles suck). But now they're putting it in cans? It's almost too much to bear.

1. Definitely wrong - and I don't even like beer
Must be someone's son or daughter in the marketing department who came up with this "brilliant" idea. Yuk.

2. This is not a Pennsylvania thing, but I saw Shiner Bock in cans and that was jarring
(no pun intended - really)

Anyway, that's another beer that should be in bottles only. /purist

3. I understand your aversion to cans
but why do brown bottles suck? Light degenerates beer (and wine) so one would think that brown is better. Is this merely an emotional response or do you actually taste a difference? Just wondering.

The cans may be an affordable option for me, since I found out Yeungling was an evil union buster...*sniff* I will miss the Porter and Black and Tan especially. Always liked the fresh clean taste of Straub.

4. Straub beer
:-) mmmmmmmmm. Miss it so much here in Los Angeles. It's the closest thing to heaven I've ever encountered!
