Scott Paterno looks dead in the water!!
Hopefully his career as a politician is overwith and he can continue to live off of Daddy's money since he's never made over 10k a year since graduating from law school (From Dickenson which a good law school but part of the Penn State system - so he probably was able to get in through Dad's influence). Oh Daddy is legendary Penn State Unversity's football coach Joe Paterno.

Analysts: Paterno running out of time
Challenger hopes ads narrow Holden gap
Sunday, October 17, 2004
BY BRETT LIEBERMAN
Of Our Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON - Republican Scott Paterno loaned his campaign another $100,000 at the end of September as he continued to trail U.S. Rep. Tim Holden in polls and raising money.

But Paterno took heart in a new poll that showed support for Holden slipped in the last six weeks.

Paterno, the GOP nominee in the 17th Congressional District, hopes to narrow the gap when his first television ads begin airing Tuesday, but campaign strategists and political experts said he has little time and cash to make up enough ground.

Paterno, a Derry Twp. attorney, raised just over $200,000 between July 1 and Sept. 30 and reported having $241,086 on-hand. He has loaned his campaign $351,000 so far.

Scott Paterno won that a primary that had 6 candidates. He wasn't even living in the 17th district until just before he opted to run, but some idiot repuke thought if they had a Paterno on the ticket that some reason voters in PA-17 would become brain dead and automatically vote for this idiot. I'm proud to say my family all lives in that district and none of them are voting for Scott. Heck, they're registered republicans and they wouldn't even vote for him in the Primaries. It looks like this district, which is republican leaning, is safe for Democrat Tim Holden again!!

1. footnotes
1. Dickinson Law & Penn State are divorcing. (Remember the divorce of Penn State Medical & Geisinger?) The Penn State folks wanted to move Dickinson to State College and change its mission to national and international cutting-edge sorts of things, rather than preparing Pennsylvania lawyers. Of course, in State College there's nobody to clerk for but district justices; supposedly, law students would benefit from being able to take courses in other graduate programs and learn environment, engineering, etc.

2. The Paterno brand might have been a good political idea 10 years ago, but Joe has trouble buying a win these days. I attribute his decline to his Republican Party lackeyism in the last decade. How can he recruit when the majority of the parents of Pennsylvania high school football stars are Democrats who are reluctant to turn their kids over to a Bush shill?

2. Too Much Competition in Primary
Fortunately, the Republicans were not able to rally around a competent candidate in the primary. There were too many candidates who split the vote up - so the squirrely guy with no accomplishments but a famous last name won a plurality.

3. Also Tim Holden has been an effective congressman
he is a moderate and in this district that is essential-he is also big in law enforcement circles due to his Sheriff experience-he is a man of the people and very professional- I am proud he is my Congressman!

5. A recent article in the Pitt Post-Gazette painted a picture of his
campaign being in trouble. His own campaign leader said something to the effect that he has a "slovenly (personal appearance)" and showed up at a GOP picnic in sandals, a no-no for those people.

6. Paterno showed up for an event in Middletown, PA
and a friend of our family who was at the event said Scott looked like he slept in his clothese before showing up (His shirt was only half tucked in).

Obviously this man has no idea the committment it takes to be an elected official. PA17 would be a joke if Paterno was able to win that seat. Hopefully an embarassment at the polls will keep him from ever running for another office again.

9. WGAL just had...
One of their "fact checks" on the ad Tim Holden is running bashing Paterno for his "I'd legalize drugs so there won't be any drug crimes" line. His excuse? "Well, I wrote that for a newspaper when I was in college but I don't have that view NOW".

Wawasthat? FLIPFLOP?

(but of course, it's OK when they trash Kerry for having a different view TODAY than 10 years ago) :puke:
