GREENSBURG - Former football star Lynn Swann said last night that he was a conservative who opposed abortion, but that he was still forming his campaign positions.
On most issues, Swann said he was planning to "talk to the people across this state to find out what they want" from a Republican candidate for governor.

Swann addressed an enthusiastic crowd at the Westmoreland County District Three dinner and reception here last night.
Republican activists like Lorraine Derezansky of Johnstown braved near-blizzard conditions to hear the retired football hero and network sportscaster.

"We Republicans have to do something really big to get rid of Rendell, and Swann is big enough, charming enough; he can do the job -- maybe he's the only one who can," she said. "And being a star from back when the Steelers won Super Bowls, that can't hurt."

Good damn luck, Lorraine. Sorry, but "Swannie" ain't big enough to take on Ed Rendell.
I love this comment: "And being a star from back when the Steelers won Super Bowls, that can't hurt." What a slap in the face to Steelers fans!
