Richland County votes to kill Columbia's bus system

Richland County last night voted 6-4 against putting a 1% sales tax on the ballot in November that would have paid for tremendous improvements to the county's roads, greenways, bike paths and bus system. The latter in particular is unlikely to survive beyond next June, since funding for the system runs out in October. Columbia will become the only state capital in America with no public transportation, and South Carolina's quest to be top of the league in everything bad and bottom of the league in everything good will get a tremendous boost. Idiots.

Albert Ellis was speaking (one of the fathers of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) He opened by stating that Columbia was one of the most "unfucking" civilized cities that he had been in because it had no decent public transportation system. Half the crowd cheered and the other half looked horrified that he said "unfucking."

Regarding the vote in Richland, dumb move.

The city that voted yes to keeping the Confederate flag and no to keeping its bus system. Says it all.

I would assume that Dr. Ellis was just attempting to emphasize his point. So instead of saying that "Columbia is uncivilized" he chose to say "Columbia is un-fucking civilized." He said fuck a lot.

I live in the Columbia area as well and what is sad is that Richland is considered quite liberal in comparison to other parts of the state. But our leaders don't act that way.

I am infuriated by the county council. If it had got on the ballot and been rejected, I would still have been mad, but at least it would have been the will of the people. This decision amounts to excecution of the bus system by fiat of the council.

6. Columbia bus system

Let us people of Columbia remember that we are paying a so called fee of $15.00 on each and every vehicle we drive in Columbia that was to support the run down bus system that SCE&G suckered our illustrous mayor Bob Coble into taking it off their hands.SCE&G paid the city to take it.Bob loves the smell of money so he bit.Now the money is gone,I only hope the tax will come off our cars.Will have to wait and see .
