Big Democrat win in Charleston tonight...
And a great effort by the local Democrats for America to support the Democratic candidate in a local election.

In the Charleston County Council district 7 special election, required by a court order due to election irregularities in the previous vote, the Democratic Candidate, Colleen Condon, defeated the Republican who had ostensibly held the seat since the prior contested election.

This isn't a small victory locally, as it returns the county council to Democratic control for the first time in 15 years!

Congratulations to Colleen Condon, Charleston County Democrats, and Democrats for America!!

8. She is on the DFA list. So glad to hear she won.
We sent a little money her way.

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/dfa-list.php

That was a big win.

In January, she ran for a Charleston County Council seat that had long been held by Republicans. On Election Day, the Republicans claimed an 18 vote victory. But Colleen Condon discovered that over 200 of her supporters had been left off the voter rolls due to a "clerical error." Republicans tried to seat her opponent on the County Council anyway. But Colleen stood up for voters and took her case to the County and State Election Commission. After months of a prolonged legal battle, the South Carolina Supreme Court supported the County Elections Board and decided that Colleen had the right to a new election. She is now waiting for the Governor to set the special election date. Please join us in supporting this DFA-Charleston Meetup endorsed candidate in her fight to win this seat and prove that every citizen's vote is sacred.

12. Latest update I have is that
Joey Douhan (sp?), the Republican snake, is contesting the election on the grounds that the voters didn't have enough privacy while casting their votes.

He's really reaching now.

We need to get Condon sworn in and voting ASAP!

13. Colleen rocks and Joey sucks
Colleen ran in a district that had been redrawn to ensure the Republican incumbent 75% of the vote in any election. But the incumbent died two weeks before the November 2nd election. Colleen's opponent is the worst candidate ever. He was named in a slander suit (sued by his black opponent in the Republican primary), didn't bother to file his Ethics Commission paperwork for the first quarter of 2005, and has been collecting pay from Charleston County since January, even though he doesn't attend Council meetings.

Now he's bitching and moaning about the voting machines, which were used without complaint in 12 SC counties in November. The guy is a complete jerk.

14. Don't let the door hit you.........................
Yesterday the SC Election Commission unanimously rejected Joey Douan's protest. Douan says he plans to file a protest with the Supreme Court.

Colleen will be sworn in today. The Dems have a majority of seats on Charleston County Council majority for the first time in 15 years.

Sweet.
