Bredesen Approval Rating Falls Below 50%

According to Survey USA, Governor Phil Bredesen's overall approval rating is down from 53% in June to 48% in July. There's an old rule of thumb that anytime an incumbent is polling under 50%, he's in trouble. Republicans have yet to field a challenger. Our '02 gubernatorial nominee is running for U.S. Senate. Who will take on Bredesen in '06?

1. That sucks
I'm thinking it's probably because of the TennCare stuff. I haven't heard of any challenger for Bredesen either. Wouldn't they have told already if they were challenging? What if nobody challenges him?

2. If rumors are true and Fred Thompson challlenges him
that is bad news not only for Bredesen, but for our party.

4. i've read that the Repubs don't want to announce until later in the year.
i just checked the tennessean and the story isn't there anymore, but the quote i remember is that there is precedent for the annoucnement not to come until after the first of the year and they are biding their time.

3. Gov. Bredesen's Popularity Evaporates - Especially Among Democrats

The Democratic Governor is liked best by White Republicans.

Bredesen's disapproval rating is highest among Democrats and minorities.

Survey USA Approval Rating for Governor Phil Bredesen, July 2005

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Bredesen is doing?

Democrat
Approve 45%
Disapprove 48%

Independent
Approve 44%
Disapprove 47%

Republican
Approve 55%
Disapprove 37%

By race, he does even worse. If Bredesen doesn't come up with a better health care plan, we can kiss the state good bye come election day.

6. When I saw this a couple of days ago I was a little distressed to
see that his approval numbers are so high with repubs and so low with democrats. Not surprised necessarily, but distressed. If a repug announces and runs for the governor's office will the dems come back?
