1. I'm not going to say yet
I'm seriously thinking about voting for Ford but anything could happen from now until next year.

2. I think Kurita should run for US congress
We need good people like her there.

Ford will take the nomination. No one over here knows who Kurita is.

3. I think so too on Congress
She would do well there for sure. Maybe then in 2008 she could run for Senate. When is Alexander's seat up? I would love to have both of them be my reps and then have John Wolfe as my Congressman. :D

4. That would be cool as hell!
It would be nice to have two Dem senators from Tennessee, again!

5. That's our position in Jackson Co....
we're leaning toward Ford, because - who the heck is Kurita??? For fairness sake, we're open to what she has to say, but so far......

(crickets chirping, whipporwhills singing, in Gainesboro)

wait, there's another Ford commercial !!!

6. I think that a moderate Dem is the best TN can do, I wish it wasn't
true but I really want to see another D in our caucus, i.e. possible majority.

15. Troubling votes
*Rated 30% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record.
*Voted YES on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage
*Voted NO on raising CAFE standards; incentives for alternative fuels.

16. So?
Kurita has an A+ rating from the NRA and introduced a bill into the State Senate to ban gay marriage. Ford is the most electable and formindale candidate Tennessee Democrats have had in years. I hope they won't let it slip by due to petty divisions in the party.

17. Devil's in the details
Kurita has left the door open to community rights
for gay couples. That wouldn't happen under the US
Constutional Amendment that Ford supports.
I'm not a fan of the NRA, however, their approval is reflective of Sen. Kurita's support of the Second Amendment.
Kurita's support of gun rights is a plus in my book.
I used to be pro gun control, but the growing rightwing
threat to America changed all that.

Question: If we had universal gun registration today,
whose doors do you think the rightwing DOJ would
come knocking on first? And do you really believe that
the Bush gang wouldn't share this information with
rightwing 'Christian soldier' hate groups?
These people are already out there -taking names!

I like Ford, Chris. I just don't think he's the best we can do.
And I don't believe he can do as well as Sen. Kurita
against the Repugs. To win, we need the crossover, and moderate vote just as much as we do the traditional liberals, and I just don't see your guy as having that broad an appeal. He'll get the urban liberals, but, IMHO, the moderate rural vote is simply outside his grasp. And urban libs by themselves aren't going to do it.

BTW: A friend wants to know:
when are you going to run for office?

18. Thanks
I have to respectfully disagree once agian. I believe Harold is right on the issues and is talking about the issues that matter most to Tennessee and the nation.

Check out our blog: http://haroldfordjr2006.blogspot.com/

Everyday almost Harold is taking action on the most pressing issues we face. Yesterday it was troop body armor. Before that it was Iraq, the Patriot Act, CAFTA, energy indepedence, and jobs. He just doesn't criticize what is going, he offers his own plans on how things should be done. That is a plus because it shows people that he stands for something, not just against what the Republicans offer.

Also, I don't know when I will run for office. Hopefully soon. I have already had people approach me about a few positions, but I have too much on my plate right now. But watch out, I may need your help soon!

Thanks again! Also, lets all make sure we come together after this primary to win and put a Democrat back in the US Senate!

and you want to support Ford, then
you'd best not go hear her
when she comes to town! ;)

8. Thnx for the info....
I'd be glad to hear her, so as to make an informed choice, but she really needs to get on the ball with getting some face and name recognition going, at least in this part of the state. I did see lots of supporters for her at the Leadership Summit in Nashville this past Saturday.

Ford or Kurita, we just need to get the most electable person out there and GET THAT SEAT BACK!!! Biden begged us at the Summit to send him a Democrat in '06.

10. Wish Democrats would vote pragmatically
The question we should be asking outselves is which is more important - having a candidate that most closely matches our views or having a candidate with a shot at getting a Democrat elected to the Senate for the first time since Gore quit to run for Vice President.

We are in a red state like it or not. We do not have the votes to win without getting significant numbers of Republicans to either stay home or cross over and vote for our candidate.

Ford may be too conservative for many on this board, but he is a world better than Van Hilary, Bob Corker, Marsha Blackburn or Ed Bryant. In your heart of hearts you know that Kurita will lose. And she will lose big. We would be smarter to get behind Ford early and give him the momentum he's going to need to have any chance at winning. Otherwise, get ready for six more years of GOP control of this Senate seat.

11. We are in a Swing State!
I'm not ready to give over the whole state to either color! I've lived in Memphis, Chattanooga, and up in them thar hills, and never have had to look far for like-minded progressives, although it *was* furtherest in Memphis. I'm for Kurita, btw, & I don't want a compromise candidate - I want to go for it!

12. That's interesting...
I support Kurita partly because of the same reason
you support Ford. That is, I believe she has a better
chance against the Repugs than does Ford.

Amen to that.... I'll never forget the debate against Bredesen - Van Hillary made Bush look like Einstein!

Let's pick our candidates, but please everyone, don't let animosity build and take any momentum from the one that emerges.

13. Who ever thinks Ford has a chance of winning this state
Is dreaming. His uncle is in some much poop right now with the Tennessee Waltz scandal. He doesn't have anything to offer the hard working blue color workers of this state. Why in the world would any moderate conservative blue collar worker vote for him.

21. I support Kurita because of her stance on eminent domain
Ford has recently taken a stance in favor of the ridiculous Kelo vs. New London ruling that supports eminent domain abuse. Kurita has come out in favor of private property rights and appears to want to curb abuses of eminent domain.

Supporting someone who will protect my private property rights is much more important than supporting someone because he happens to be a darling of the DNC or from my hometown.

23. Senator Kurita Visits Democracy for Rutherford County
Senator Kurita Visits Democracy for Rutherford County!
Tennessee State Senator Rosalind Kurita (D-Clarksville) visited Democracy for Rutherford County at the July Meetup at the Patterson Community Center in Murfreesboro. Kurita is seeking the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Bill Frist and she accepted DRC’s invitation to come to Rutherford County and address our group. read more>>> http://democracyfortennessee.smartcampaigns.com/index.php?q=node/view/354

24. Undecided
I am not sure which one I would vote for in the primary. There are things I like about both of them and then some things I am not so fond of so it is hard to say. I guess I need more information on both of them before I can make an intelligent decisions. The only good thing is that unless he flip flops Frist will no longer be our Senator.
