Anyone here from Collierville?
My wife and I are about to move to the Memphis area and we are trying to nail down a couple of safe suburban areas in which to search for a home. We will both be working in the south Memphis area.

My research thus far has led me to Collierville, but I'd like to hear other suggestions and opinions from people who actually live in the area.

Thanks much!

1. I grew up in Collierville
I now live in Nashville, but my grandparents moved to Collierville in 1952, and my family has lived there since then. It is considerably different from what it was when I was growing up: my parents have seen the population grow from about 1200 in 1952 to 40K today. It used to be primarily a bedroom community to Memphis, but now is essentially its own city. There are all the amenities one would expect: shopping, fast food, theatre, sports and recreation. If you have kids, the schools are Shelby County run, as opposed to the (some believe) inferior Memphis City School System. Private schools are also available in town. One of the main features of Collierville is the Town Square, which is ringed with businesses, some of which date to the 1800s.
Collierville is a charming place to live; it was a great place to grow up. The primary reason I no longer live there is that it is too close to Memphis-- that and the fact that I am quite nostalgic, and miss the way it was when I grew up there. No one used to know where it was when I mentioned that I am from there; now it is quite the hot spot. Nonetheless, I think you would be pleased with my little hometown.

2. Excellent!
That's what I was hoping to hear. This is also encouraging: http://www.bestplaces.net/city/profile.aspx?cat=VOTING&city=Collierville_TN

Of course, that isn't a 'make or break' reason to choose a particular city, but the little things do add up.

Thanks, Volstork.

3. Wow
That link surprises me! My dad is a staunch repub (makes the holidays interesting, to say the least), my mom is a left-leaning moderate, amd my grandmother was one of only 2 people in Collierville at the time who admitted to voting for Kennedy. Glad to see that the tide has turned!
Good luck to you and your wife-- let me know if you do settle in Collierville.
