Voting Machines Should include a Paper Trail
We should push all the Senate to pass a bill to mandate all
voting machines to have a paper trail before 2008. We should
not let up on the issue. We have too much at state for this
not to happen.

1. I couldn't agree with you more...
Senator Burks was responsible for the Fail Safe Voting bill here in TN I wonder if she would sponsor a paper trail bill....

3. When I voted in Metro
I questioned them about paper trails. None yet, but the plan is to have them in place for 2008.

4. Actually, that's not true.
The State Election Coordinator, Brook Thompson, and Ray Barrett, Nashville's Voter Registrar, continue to fight against paper trails. Given the serious melt-down that occurred statewide in Tennessee on election day and the obvious incapacity of the touch-screen machines to even handle voting in a time- and cost-effective manner, we are working to get support to ask for our money back for the touch-screen machines in order to use that money to purchase optical scan equipment, which starts and ends with a paper ballot.

If you are interested on working on this issue here in Tennessee, please PM me with your email address and I will be in touch. We do have a joint study committee of our state legislature which will be looking hard at this issue and our group, Gathering To Save Our Democracy, is working on many fronts to return to a free, fair and verifiable voting process in the Orange State.
