Lawrence Co. Commissioner Chris D. Jackson announced yesterday that he is forming an exploratory committee to seek the Democratic nomination for Tennessee House of Representatives District 70 (Lawrence, Lewis, and portions of Wayne County in lower-middle Tennessee).

Elected to County Commission at the age of 19 in 2006, Jackson is the youngest person ever elected to public office in Lawrence County and at the time was one of the youngest elected officials in the country.

This announcement is interesting on several levels. First and most obvious is the age of the candidate. Second, it's the first formal announcement of a Democrat stepping up to "take back the house" that we're aware of. Third, the recent history of the 70th District is an interesting look at Tennessee's slide into the Red.
