Tennessee Democrats Want You To Know, They're Not Going to Take Away Your Guns
Our gun-happy state lege is putting 4 bills through at present; 3 are sponsored by Dems:

All are from the Tennessean newspaper, the past two-three weeks:

The Tennessee House voted Thursday to allow people with handgun carry permits to have loaded rifles and shotguns in their vehicles.

Representatives voted 82-10 for the bill sponsored by Rep. Henry Fincher, D-Cookeville, who said the change is needed to line up the law with what he called "common rural practices."

===========

Tennessee's database of state-issued permits to carry concealed handguns would be closed from public inspection under a proposal headed for a full House vote.

The House Judiciary Committee voted 6-4 on Wednesday to advance the measure sponsored by Rep. Eddie Bass, D-Prospect.

===========

The right to carry handguns into restaurants that serve alcohol will again be taken up by the state Senate this year in a bill sponsored by Sen. Doug Jackson.

A similar bill is also headed for a full state House of Representatives vote after the House Judiciary Committee advanced on voice vote a measure to allow handguns at restaurants and bars where alcohol is served until 11 p.m.

Jackson, D-Dickson, is one of the senators spearheading the bill this year, as he did last year when it passed in the state Senate, but failed in the House. This year he said he has a feeling it will pass.

==============

Tennessee firearms dealers would no longer have to take the thumbprints of people buying guns under a bill passed by the state House on Thursday.

The measure sponsored by House Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada was approved on an 82-11 vote, with four members abstaining. The companion bill is awaiting a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

===========

Proposals allowing guns in state parks and wildlife areas are among handgun-related bills advancing in the Legislature.

The two measures passed the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Their counterparts have been assigned to a similar committee in the Senate.

The bill sponsored by Rep. Harry Tindell, D-Knoxville, eventually passed the subcommittee with an amendment that gives local governments the option of allowing permit holders to carry weapons within local parks, or certain areas of the parks, such as greenways or bike trails.

=======================

I know what Howard Dean said, but isn't this taking things a bit far?

1. AFAIC, yes more than a bit.
I suppose it would be a reason to stay the hell out of bars and restaurants even more than we do. Would restaurant or bar owners be able to say 'not in my place of business'?

Why no more thumbprinting?

And what is the need to have firearms in state parks? Just one more place we would stay the hell out of.

We were discussing this over dinner and we wondered when the laws would be changed to allow firearms in liquor stores and on school property! :crazy:

2. Well, On the Bright Side
More culling of the herd, right?

Funny how people here rail against teh illegals on one hand, make it easier for the gangs to buy AK-47s on the other.
