House Bill 23 by Representative Brown will ban Credit Scoring, and we must give this bill support.

Call the members of the House Insurance Committee today. Tell them that you support House Bill 23 and a complete ban on Credit Scoring. It is essential they vote for House Bill 23. CALL THEN EMAIL. CALL FIRST!!!

1. Yes, already very active.
I am preparing to send off about thirty letters discussing many issues, but most important to me is the state financing for education to which the State for years has not met its obligations. Plus, I am lobbying for another across-the-board pay raise for teachers! So now, I am adding one more thing to my letter. You got it!

4. Your credit bureau report
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 08:02 AM by PDittie
from the three major sources of credit data collection --Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion -- is assigned a value (your score) on the basis of all of your credit history: lines, amounts, limits, and of course payment history.

The score (the scoring methods are a closely guarded secret) is used to determine the interest rates you pay on your mortgage, auto loans, to approve or deny insurance coverage, and much more.

5. Do you have a link that explains the pros and cons of this?
ie, to Texas Watch or other websites? I don't know the issue of why Texas Watch considers credit scoring to be discriminatory, etc and would like to read up on it.

6. Pros of credit scoring
The insurance companies love it. that should be enough for any consumer.

They claim it helps them keep insurance rates low. Have you seen how low your rates are?

There is absolutely NO study that shows that links risks to a credit score. They believe if you have bad credit you are more likely to committ insurance fraud. Go figure.
