Air America does Dallas
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 07:47 AM by Fighting Irish

Air America's round-the-clock political talk will hit the air Monday in Austin and debut March 21 in the Dallas area, replacing the Spanish-language programming on KXEB-AM (910). Air America is already on in Corpus Christi.

In North Texas, Air America's success could be limited by the reach of the low-wattage station. Static nearly drowns out KXEB in some areas, but officials at Border Media Partners, the station's owners, said they were trying to strengthen the signal.

Air America executives, who called the expansion in Texas the high point for the network, said Mr. Franken will find an audience, even in President Bush's home state.

"We're providing an alternative for a minority that feels alienated," CEO Danny Goldberg said.

KXEB's signal is not the greatest, and it gets a bit fuzzy to the west in Fort Worth. You can see the predicted signal contours here:

KOKE (1600) in Austin picks up the format next week. Brownsville is another market that has been rumored as well. And Corpus Cristi just signed on a few weeks ago.

3. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth...
...but this is a horrible frequency to be on. It will result in unfairly low ratings...and I fear a quick cancellation. Let's hope I'm wrong.

NOTE: I already get AAR on Sirius, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

4. That's why they should promote the hell out of this station
More money means more ability to boost the signal. I tried out the frequency in North Dallas earlier today, and it comes through just fine.

Sirius et al are cool, but for those of us who want to keep the airwaves free, this is a wonderful development.

Crispini deserves a lot of credit in this development, BTW. Kudos!

5. Thank you AAR!
I wonder what happened to 1190? That was the original frequency being speculated on.

I just checked out 910 and the signal seems pretty good here in Old East Dallas. It's actually better than 1190.

Perhaps outlaying areas have more of a problem. Let's hope the station can get a power boost.

But anything is better than being stuck near my computer to hear AAR!

:kick:

7. We saw this on the front page this morning at our local Starbucks,
and checked the frequency in the car.

Not super quality, but we even get it in Rowlett. And it is encouraging to see that they're trying to up the signal already.

We're getting a sticker for the car as soon as we can to help em advertise in case anyone doesn't know they're here. It could enlighten some folks.

9. Hey there!
Any word on merchandise, stickers, packs, etc. for us to buy or grab?

I think billboards right out of the starting gate would be a great idea, too. I'd love to see Randi Rhodes' face filling one instead of Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham.

15. This isn't a bad thing and will get better
I can't find the link, but when I was doing the research I saw where they will be increasing the signal strength at 910 to 25,000 from the present 1,000.
This is a good thing.
