LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Clear Channel Communications Inc on Wednesday said it will launch a progressive talk station on FM in Texas as part of its ongoing effort to capitalize on demand for liberal-leaning talk.

The new format will debut on KRPT-FM in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday morning with syndicated talk show host Jerry Springer leading a line-up that will include Ed Schultz, Phil Hendrie, Alan Colmes and the Reverend Jesse Jackson.

The latest station "flip" features programing from Democracy Radio. Unlike Clear Channel's other conversions to progressive talk, this particular station will not be carrying programing from Air America, a liberal talk radio syndicator, the company said.

Radio industry sources said a rival AM station in San Antonio will be announcing an affiliation deal with Air America in the near-term. Air America was unavailable for comment.

AAR may wind up on KZDC 1250AM.

3. Congratulations to S.A.!
I love this part "effort to capitalize on demand for liberal-leaning talk" radio.

Al Franken said when he went to the radio industry convention last year, before the launch of Air America, they were laughing at him and telling him he was crazy. They pretty much bought into the whole Limpball spin about how liberals would never listen to talk radio. This year when he went, they were falling all over themselves to curry favor with him. What a difference a year makes, and of course lets not forget the 50 million liberals market in America.

I think Clear Channel wants to make sure Air America doesn't get too big and threaten them.
