1. As long as you're not a Bush Republican, I hope you run --
-- and win big.

I don't know Texas' laws and campaign provisions, etc. but the office of the Secretary of State should have copies available, and so should your local political parties' headquarters.

Absent those sources, a good librarian will be able to track it down for you.

& good luck!

4. Well, honestly, I'd start smaller than that.

A statewide campaign requires a LOT of effort -- Texas is HUGE -- and a LOT of money. As in, thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's a lot of fundraising to start off with.

Why don't you start off by educating yourself on state and local politics and try for something like school board, city council, etc. Even precinct chair in your local party is an elected office, and it's an important one.

BTW, it's "DemocratIC" party, not "Democrat" party. :)

5. hehe mybad
but in my area very little takes place here so the incumbents cant lose.Same with the people of the closest(btw I do not live inside city limits so no city offices for me) town New Boston kinda set in there way don't like to listen to young people so its a waste of time for that I think. My biggest problem i think is the lack of knowledge on how to just get started. I looked on the DNC web site for info on just how to get started in local stuff no info there. So i thought I'd go for a long shot and check the RNC web site for info on getting started no luck there as well. So I'm really looking for info on just how to get started.

6. Here are some things you can do...
1. The Bowie County Democratic Party has a website. http://www.bowiedemocrats.org/ Volunteer for the party. Get to know your precinct chair. (I see that the chair for New Boston is 75 years old---he might appreciate a little help from someone like you.)

2. Watch Last Man Standing - Politics, Texas Style. If your local video stores don't have it for rent, go to Amazon.com and just buy the DVD. This is about as close as you can get to a real campaign without actually knocking on doors.

3. Come to DemocracyFest in Austin this June. We're going to have about a thousand people from around the state and around the country getting together for discussions and workshops on political nuts and bolts. http://www.democracyfortexas.org/Demfest/index.html

And by the way, welcome to DU! :hi:

7. some things to consider
Congrats on your decision.

If you decide to run as a Dem you'll make your life a lot easier. Like somebody else mentioned, go chat with the precinct chair of the DP. Even if they won't outright endorse you, they probably would offer some advice and help you get the forms filled out and submitted in time.

Running a campaign singlehandedly is tough work, especially if you're trying to get into a state office. You'll need a local support team, especially if the local DP won't offer assistance. You'll also need money for signs and that kind of thing.

You should really think long and hard about what seat you would do best to run for. A lot of state legislator positions are incumbent-won, and in areas such as where you live the incumbent probably is really well connected, so that's a big battle you're setting yourself up for. On the otherhand, the incumbent is probably so used to having little competition that a smart campaign could potentially unseat him or her. But that would take some money and a lot of supporters.

I don't know if there are any county positions open in 2006, but if there are you might want to consider running for one of these positions. It would require a lot less resources and you would get experience running for office and holding office. There's actually a lot of county offices that come up for election that require no formal prerequisites other than residence and age.
