Key lawmakers say a controversial proposal to ban gay and bisexual people from becoming foster parents is all but dead, but the legislator who proposed the ban said Wednesday that he might seek another way to push it through this session.
Rep. Robert Talton, R-Pasadena, successfully tacked the ban last week on to the House version of Senate Bill 6, the child and adult protective services reform bill.
Although the Senate author of the bill has said her chamber will scrap the ban, Talton said he hasn't given up hope.
"If I can find it in another bill, I will certainly do that, if it doesn't survive SB 6," Talton said. "I can't imagine the Senate pulling that out. I would be very surprised."
