From Democracy for Texas:
DeLay Billboards
Did you take part in the contest to find a slogan for Democracy for America’s DeLay billboard? Over 20,000 people did, and DFT steering committee members Teri Sperry and Fran Vincent joined folks from Democracy for Houston as judges for the contest. And our own Marla Camp, who in real life is a graphic artist, has taken the winning slogan (“Corporations spent millions to send Tom DeLay golfing and all you got was this billboard”) and designed a terrific billboard that will be launched in two locations, one in downtown Houston and the other in Galveston.
Want to join one of the visibility events on May 3 when the billboards are unveiled? To get more details and to RSVP for the Houston event, go to www.democracyforamerica.com/houstonbillboard. To find out about and RSVP for the Galveston event, go to www.democracyforamerica.com/galvestonbillboard. Do it without DeLay!
Statewide Volunteer Assistance Needed for “Save America Without DeLay Family Fun Festival”
DFA, DFT, and DFH are sponsoring a fun-filled event in Houston on Saturday, May 14, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tom Bass Park. The folks at DFH are busy planning food, entertainment, and games. (Ever seen a “Send DeLay to the Moon-Walk”? How about a “Sack DeLay Sack Race”?) Speakers, including Congressman Chris Bell, will round out the day. To get directions and RSVP, go to www.democracyforamerica.com/DFHPicnic.
How can you help? If you live in the area, you can help put the event together, work on May 14, or make phone calls to local activists and others to invite them to attend. No matter where you live, you can use your cell minutes to call people in District 22 and ask them to attend. To volunteer, send a note to Leah Burris at democracyforhouston@hotmail.com.
