No Nonsense in November! - VOTE AGAINST THE AMENDMENT!
Defeating the amendment to write discrimination into the Texas constitution
for the first time in Texas' history won't happen by signing a petition. This
calls for feet in the street organizing.

Please visit No Nonsense in November, sign up
for e-mail alerts, volunteer to fight, pledge to vote and donate to the
cause.

The average turnout for constitutional amendment elections in Texas is about
12%. Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis counties and San Marcos will
represent about 50% of the vote in Texas with their municipal elections. In
spite of the municipal elections in the major metropolitan areas of Texas,
turnout will be probably be very low (about 6% in Houston). We can beat this
amendment but we're going to have to hit the streets to do it.

Even during the Jim Crowe era, discrimination was not written into the
constitution. Marriage between people of the same sex is already illegal in
the state of Texas. A constitutional amendment serves no other purpose than
to enshrine hatred into our constitution.

1. Civil rights
should NEVER be the subject of a referendum. I seem to recall reading something about equal protection under the law. I sure wish that applied to America!

2. done
I'm happy to say that the troops are already out working. My neighborhood was block walked this weekend. I gave the volunteer good moral support and told them they were doing important work. And told them I'd be out there with them soon too.

Vote No on Hate.

4. Nice Quote!
A constitutional amendment serves no other purpose than
to enshrine hatred into our constitution.

or

The constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage that is already illegal in Texas, serves no other purpose than
to enshrine hatred into our constitution.

7. I like your quote better
It was close to bedtime when I posted and I don't think mine is quite as clear. Yours is much more succinct.

I was inspired by David Van Os a few weeks ago after the SDEC meeting in Austin when he made the statement about this amendment enshrining hatred into our constitution.

5. I have signed up for the email list
and I will be organizing my precinct against this in November. I have to admit, though, I'm curious about how they've decided to frame this issue. I've noticed that they are taking the tack "it's not about gay marriage, it's about writing hate into the Constitution." which is certainly true, but -- I wish I could find the article, I think I read it on here somewhere, because I read an article that said that really, this kind of amendment IS about gay marriage, and why don't we just talk about that?

Anyway, it's worth a discussion, I'm looking forward to participating in the fight no matter which way we frame it!

6. Crispini the frame is "Vote No"
Simple as that. Make it simple like the other side. Just say No.

No Nonsense, No more wasted special sessions, No unnecessary constitutional amendments, No hate, No discrimination, No limits to freedom, No limits to civil rights, No bad amendments to our Texas constitution.

It's more than about gay marriage, it's about drawing the line and saying enough already. Do the real business that Texans need like school education and stay out of people's private lives.

8. It is about gay marriage
and lesbian, bisexual and transgender marriage, unmarried couples who are living together and divorced couples. If the constitution is amended it opens the door to a variety of interpretations by judges who decide upon their feelings then find a way to make the law fit their feelings rather than apply the law.

Not sure if this is the article you're looking for since I'm kinda new here but it's always worth a reread: Duck and Cover Time

9. Thanks for the link
As I said to a friend yesterday "well, even though schools aren't financed, thank god the gays can't marry." :banghead:

This is beyond ridiculous to me. Discrimination does not belong in the constitution.
