2. thank you acmejack!
I'm so glad you took pictures. I took my camera but was just too involved in listening and meeting up with friends. What a great send off we gave them. I'm proud of Austin for standing up!

Take the Statesman count for what it is, a lie. We were "only hundreds". I'm surprised they didn't say dozens, like they usually say. I know we had at least 1,500 and maybe 2,000. This was almost like the rally at Camp Casey II last Saturday.

Hundreds flock to hear anti-war mother
Cindy Sheehan got a rock star's welcome as she arrived in Austin on Wednesday to launch a 26-state "Bring Them Home Now" bus tour to protest the war in Iraq.

Hundreds of Austin peace activists and protesters sweated through the thick, 100-degree, rush-hour heat to hear Sheehan, who has become a national figure after setting up camp near President Bush's Crawford ranch in early August and demanding to meet with him about her son Casey, a soldier killed in the Iraq war.

Austin activists said they thought that Sheehan's sudden appearance on the national stage would revitalize the anti-war movement.

"I think she gives people hope that they have a voice," said Pete Fredricksen, 53, who was wearing a 78704 Peace T-shirt, a nod to the South Austin ZIP code. "People had begun to think they can't do anything. She shows that one person can stand up and other people will follow."

Keep the peace tour rolling!

3. No, thank you!
How many people stayed at your house last night?

I saw you over by the flagpoles. I think I have a picture of you here somewhere. I took over 300, so I will look for it.

4. Hi ammejack, none unfortunately
They had such a wonderful response of people wanting to open up their homes. Heck I even cleaned up my extra bedroom and bath.

I think they managed to keep them all together in pretty close proximity for an early departure this morning. I did really want to host a family too. ;(

Austin's generosity rocks! One of my friends was on collection duty through the crowd and she said a couple of folks donated $100 bills. Sweet! With gas as high as it is now, they're going to need all that money to get to D.C.

:yourock: Austin!

5. I'm sorry I missed the rally
I got down there around 6 pm but there were various streets blocked off. I circled for a while trying to find a place to park but finally gave up. Looks like there was a huge turnout, even without me.

ANd let me just add, the Statesman sucks!
