Need help facilitating very large donations for Dallas - Crispini
are you around?

The husband of someone I know through another online support group is the owner of something called AD Marketing, which is a distribution network. They deal with a lot of industrial supplies (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) but a lot of other things as well. I spoke to my friend on the phone today at length, and their network has access to supplies such as school supplies, batteries, and flip flops in large quantities, just to name a few.

Here's their website: http://www.adhq.com

The wife tells me that 2000 clients of this marketing network are coming to Dallas in about 2 weeks. They are prepared to make very large donations. They've been trying to work through FEMA but they're getting no response. They want to go directly to people who need the materials.

Does anyone know who in Dallas to contact about this? Is there a point person who is coordinating the relief activities at a broad level?

Thanks in advance.

1. One man, Louis Rainey...
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 08:24 PM by fudge stripe cookays
is the head of the Dem party in LA, and is coordinating folks at around 74 hotels in the area, and is accepting donations and trying to find folks lodging, supplies, etc.

I'd say he'd be a good guy to see to start with. He's probably dealing with other folks in the area as well.

Here's at the
Courtyard by Marriott
2383 Stemmons Trail
Dallas, Texas 75220
Attn: Louis Rainey
# Phone: 1-214-352-7676
# Fax: 1-214-352-4914

Thanks for the help, moc! You rule!

4. You're welcome!
Just keep in mind he's been out all day; TexasThoughtCriminal saw him for a little while yesterday, but he has been running all over town meeting with apartment managers, mayors of suburbs, etc.

So if he doesn't call you back right away, be patient, he's juggling about 50 bazillion things.

Also, here's his e-mail. I got it today, and he answered it before the voicemail:

3. I called him!
Got his hotel room and spoke to one of his family members (I presume). She's very interested and will have Mr. Rainey call me back.

Thanks again! Through DU we can DU it all!

7. School supplies -- Houston City Council
Houston City Council is sponsoring a drive for school supplies for young evacuees. Any Houston fire station will accept them.

8. Did you get a good contact?
If not yet, how about the Dallas Chapter of the Red Cross. I was able to get through to their donations person pretty easily -- just go to redcrossdallas.org.

9. Might try Salvation Army as well
I am going out to Texas Stadium again today (Monday) to help receive and sort donations from the public. I can talk to the guy in charge of that operation and see if he can give me any info for the large donations.

10. Salvation Army Liason
There is no one contact person because people are doing many jobs right now, but if you call 214-637-8100 they will put you in touch with someone to handle large donations.

They really would like the school supplies especially and said that they could be delivered to their staging area at 1607 W Commerce, Dallas
