Grassroots Political Workshop in Houston Sun., 9/25
Talking the Talk! Grassroots Political Workshop

Building a majority, issue by issue

Sunday, September 25, 2005, 1:00 pm -- 5 pm, at the Billie Carr Institute, University Center at the University of Houston Central Campus

Sponsored by the Harris County Democrats (HCD)

Speakers: Dr. Richard Murray, Dr. Bob Stein, and Dr. Stephen Klineberg

Targeted to activists, political club members and those newly involved in the political process, this workshop focuses on quality of life issues such as environment, transportation, and education important to Democratic and independent voters in suburban and urban area campaigns. To win elections in our region, Democrats need to communicate about issues important to Democrats and a segment of "independent" voters. We can't just shout at George W. Bush and complain about Republicans, we need to speak out about issues that a majority of voters care about. This event features briefings from the top three survey research experts in the Houston region, discussions about key quality of life issues, a city candidate/volunteer fair to connect activists and volunteers with candidates and comments from
candidates about these issues.

1. Maybe the Dems in Houston
should recruit some of the evacuees that are there from New Orleans. I'm sure allot of those people have a lot to say about this administration.!!!

Bush Mavericks back Perry
White House stays neutral; its backers do not.
By W. Gardner Selby
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Tuesday, August 30, 2005
Young Texas Republicans who gathered more than $2 million for President Bush's re-election last year intend to flex their fundraising muscles in state politics, starting today with an endorsement expected to yield $200,000 or more for Gov. Rick Perry's 2006 re-election campaign.

...

Despite Bush sitting out the Texas fray, so-called Texas Mavericks not-yet-grizzled, big-dollar Bush fundraisers from the 2004 election have voted unanimously to support Perry through a Dallas-based political action committee, Maverick PAC of Texas.

...

The political committee came together in April as the first state-level group inspired by 90 national Mavericks, people under 40 whotogetherraised more than $13.5 million for Bush in 2004.
