I've had it!!
I've had it up to HERE with all the "woo hoo, let's hope Rita hits Texas" threads. :grr: I am this close to hitting the "alert" button on each & every damn one of them. I don't go around to other states, like Utah, & write posts wishing ill on the people of those states. Is it asking TOO DAMN MUCH for my state to be shown the same respect? GOD!!

Does anyone else feel the same way?

2. Better us than Louisiana again, dear.
That's what I think.

((( BIG HUG )))

(although I must confess I'm a little tired of the geographical numbnuts who think it has any chance whatsover of hitting Crawford. Use a map, stupids.)

So you're like 2 days away from DC, eh!? Yippee!!!

5. I don't want it to hit Louisiana either
but I'm damned sick of the "party" attitude about Rita slamming into Texas. One more post I swear I'll go :nuke: on someone. If I'm a little "touchy" about this it's because (a) I've lived in Hurricane Alley my entire life (b) I have either ridden out or run from hurricanes and (c) I have friends & family who live along the coast, from Houston down to Corpus & I really don't want to see them hurt.

I hope I'm 2 days away from DC....it depends on how far south Rita will come ashore. If she comes ashore between Brownsville & Corpus, I may have to stay here because we will get wind & rain from it. Last time, during Emily, I ended up with a downed tree & a downed power line. I'd rather be home if my roof is going to blow off, if you know what I mean (and I'm 180 miles inland too, so think on that you jerks who think it's funny to wish hurricanes on people!!!!!)

4. If it does they will regret the gasoline sticker shock that results!
If any of those refineries are damaged, the price of gasoline will go out of sight...

7. When I saw someone from Galveston being interviewed...
I grabbed my purse and headed out to fill the tank. It was down to 3 gallons.

I haven't seen the postings about people wanting the storm to hit Texas. That's a shame. I'd like to think it's trolls. All the best to all in Texas and I do mean all. At least the Gulf waters weren't 90 degrees today. That may help keep the storm to minimum power.

9. It does not have to hit them.
Right now offshore platforms which had been damaged but repairable may get wiped out. Those not damaged may get damaged. No matter what they will be down and not producing.
Same way with the refineries. Right now along the Texas Gulf coast plants are in the process of shutting down to prepare for landfall. At 24 hours before landfall any within X range will be down. If it comes in at Freeport it will be a worse case scenario for flooding all along the bay and up the ship channel. BTW not just talking about the plants. Freeport would mean wind and massive flooding for a lot of people. See that link I posted earlier. That would put "dirty" side toward us.

6. If it was to hit Texas
My biggest wish would be for it to hit bu$h's pig farm and nothing else...oh and with him in it.But,that wouldn't be good either because we would have to pay for another one rebuilt. :(

11. dg you need a big Texas hug
Your Texas buddies are here for you. :grouphug:

And wasn't it just two weeks ago when people were actually praising Texas for opening their shelters to the Katrina evacuees. Well folks wake up, we still have about 350,000 of our neighbors in our state. Do you want to make things worse for them with more FEMA red tape.

dg, now you know how all people who are discriminated against feel like. People judge you by one characteristic, whether it's true or not. I'm disappointed in people like that too. You would think of all places you could get some respect on DU, but hey this is like any segment of society there's always that small percentage who whine and malign us all.

Stand proud Texas Democrats! We've been through worse. They hate us for our freaking big state. They're just jealous. When we turn this state blue, they'll come begging our our electoral votes. You just wait.

Sonia

12. Last week, some DU'ers thought it was grand that Ophelia
was going to hit and tear the hell out the coast of a "red state"--North Carolina.

Never mind that there are plenty of Democrats here in NC who work their asses off in this state every year trying to get out the vote.

The smart alecks dissing us had no idea about the politics of our state, nor the demographics, nor even that we have a 2nd term Democratic governor.

Sickens me.

I'm sending good thoughts and prayers to Texas. Much love to all of you from this North Carolinian.

Lex

15. Please read
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 11:52 PM by Lithos
Gentle reminder. I realize there are going to be posters make some rather idiotic remarks over the next few days. Some are going to be about Bush, others about Texas in general. Not much we can do about the former unless it really is over the top or violates some other rule.

For the latter, please use the alert function on those who have turned it into an excuse to bash Texas or any other state. The ignore function mentioned above is also a good alternative.

If you have to respond, please respond gracefully and with dignity. Do not turn it into a flame war, it's not worth the effort. Or, if you have to vent, please post in this thread or PM me.
