if you do go to the blogs and you're so inclined, write some words of encouragement to everyone. It's hard, I know, to understand the impact of one small school in one small town, but as a parent of a 12 year old girl who will be in 4 schools in 4 years as a result of this and who LOVES the school they plan to close, it's close to home. This is not to mention the fact that there will be so many displaced and moved further east, away from the white folks.... Unbelievable really. We're trying to get national press on this, but so far, no luck.

I just saw this poll go from 60 40 to about 70 30 in no time. DU is a great resource for all of us. Let's all work together to help each other, just like yall are helping to SAVE THE O.L. SLATON KNIGHTS OF LUBBOCK!!!

"For"? Hard to say. It was sprung on us. I, along with many others, have been on the phone with board members today. Seems they are now rethinking, and that maybe they will re-present it to us to convince of its merits. I'm open to suggestion, but what I know so for, I'm against.

"Against?" This is a magnet program. My daughter, (12, white, uppper middle class) is now being exposed to different races and cultures. Just now (and I'm not making this up...) she said to me "it was cool at our protest this morning. I looked around and saw so many different kinds of people.." It's a great school, a great model of diversity. Also, there seem to be alternatives to what they want to do, but the alternatives are being brushed aside.

I am not convinced that this is entirely a bad thing.

I can understand why parents might not want their children moved to a different neighborhood school.

bucks. That's not gonna happen in Lubbock America. My kids went to Roscoe Wilson when we lived in Lubbock-it was outstanding. They would have graduated to Slaton if we had been able to stay. Good luck in fighting the good fight.
