Texas DUers and the Flag
How do Texas DUer feel about Perry not ordering flags at half staff?

1. For Reagan? I missed that.
Most flags around Houston were at half staff anyway.

2. Every flag I saw was half staff.
I also heard that he called for state offices to be be closed for the "national day of mourning."

Personally, as much as I don't like Reagan, I think it is appropriate to have flags at half staff for the death of a President, and if Repugs tried to protest that for a Democratic President, I'd be angry. I don't think they need to be down a solid month though. A week is sufficient IMO.

5. Somebody refresh my memory
When Johnson died, I think Lady Bird ordered the flags raised before the requisite 30 days in honor of returning hostages from Iran. Am I getting senile?

LBJ died in about 1970 or so. The Iran hostages were released in January 1981, inauguration day for Reagan.

I'm trying to think of what you may be thinking that happened coincidental to the Iran hostages being released. There wasn't a president that had just died at that point in time. I believe Nixon and Ford were the only living former presidents at that time.

8. So it's official
I'm getting senile. I sure wish I could remember what I can't remember! Of all the things I miss, I miss my mind the most. :hi:

3. All State and county flags around here at
half mast. For federal institutions the flag is mandated by the flag code to be at halfmast 30 days for the deat of a president.
