Gammage will run for guv says source
Here comes the judge: Former Texas Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage has decided to enter the 2006 Democratic gubernatorial primary, raising the possibility of at least a three-person fray for a chance to chase the Republican nominee in November.

Gammage, who filed paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission designating himself the treasurer of his gubernatorial campaign last month, intends to announce next week, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting the kickoff.

1. Well at least the party is kicking
We have candidates filing and we have contested races. That's a good sign of our Democratic party being alive.

Still a lot of races to fill though. No race unchallenged!

And you have comedy to boot. Talmadge Heflin will run for his old seat, Texas House (HD-149) against Hubert Vo. Can't wait to see Vo kick his ass once again. Heflin is really dreaming if he thinks his district wants him back.

3. Good food for thought, PDittie. Thanks for posting.
That said, I'm not terribly impressed with Chris Bell. His record, yes. His speaking skills -- no. So I'd be willing to give another candidate a look. It's good to know what to expect, though.

4. I have been a Bell supporter
But it seems that his campaign has taken a slow train to Nowheresville.

10. Yeah, but look at Bell's competition
As one who has seen both Chris Bell AND crispini speak from the same stage on the same night, I have to say there is no match for crispini when she gets riled up. She's a firecracker! Even Al Sharpton and VanOs would look boring next to her!

So give Bell another chance... When he doesn't have such stiff speaking competition.B-)

5. crispi and N. P.:
I'm don't think I'm going to try to change your first impressions of Bell. That would be by all indications fruitless.

If the worst thing that can be said of Bell is that he's not a fiery populist like David Van Os, that's quite a long way from a candidate who might have some ten-year-old dirty laundry that is going to get aired.

And we might as well air it now rather than later.

Maybe it's nothing, maybe it's not nothing. But let's find out which it is.

I hope some of those Gammage supporters that posted his praises two weeks ago return to help me out with some answers to my questions.

BOR has another conversation going on this topic, which includes the revelation that Gammage acquired a domain name for a gubernatorial campaign six months ago, in June.

6. Now, that's not really fair
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 08:33 AM by crispini
to say that it's a domain name for a gubernatorial campaign when it's only www.bobgammage.com ... I mean, hell, I've got MY name registered and I'm not planning on running for governor anytime soon. :D

Jeez, I just wish we'd have a REALLY GREAT candidate for Gov, you know? I want it all: looks AND brains AND ethics AND speaking skills AND vision! :D

edited to add: And actually, my FIRST impression of Bell was good. I mean, anyone who'd file ethics charges on Tom DeLay is a friend of mine, eh? But it was after I saw him speak that I kind of begin to have second thoughts. He just came across as your typical Washington insider business as usual white guy politician. Anyway, I'll go hear him again (and anyone else, too.) :D

Yes, that's jumping to a conclusion on my part.

I don't have my name registered (and I'm not running for governor)...

Still, I think it is a little odd that he was doing this in June, about the time Carole Strayhorn declared, and also about the same time we were all at Dem Fest (was Bob there, anyone?) and Chris Bell hadn't even committed to run yet.

8. Meh. It takes twenty dollars and five minutes...
to register a domain name. Sometimes if I think of a good name and it's not registered I just buy it because I "might want it" someday. I think I own 5 or 6 I'm not even using at this point. :D
