Texas Republican Legal Corruption

When he got the news that the U.S. Supreme Court has decided to hear arguments in the Texas redistricting case, Bushite Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott quickly issued a press release blithely stating that it was "not surprising" for the Supreme Court to hear arguments on the case and that he expects the Court will find the Texas redistricting plan to be "wholly constitutional."

First of all, every lawyer worth his salt knows that the U.S. Supreme Court only rarely grants review in cases appealed to it. Putting aside the fact that his statement is misleading, one must wonder why Greg Abbott felt it necessary to editorialize at all. Is he perhaps feeling defensive about the role he played as Texas Attorney General in giving his legal blessing to Tom DeLay's power grab?

Could he be feeling defensive about the fact that he was not successful in trying to persuade the Supreme Court to summarily affirm the lower court's decision without hearing argument? Or is he perhaps defensive because the professional legal staff in the U.S. Department of Justice concluded that the Texas redistricting was illegal?

Remember, this is the same Greg Abbott who tried to convince the Texas courts they had no authority to take action over an unconstitutional school finance system. Even the all-Republican Texas Supreme Court had no stomach for that stellar argument.

A Texas Attorney General who understood that his job was to be the People's Lawyer would have long ago sided with the people rather than with the Republican Party political bosses when it came to Texas redistricting. Greg Abbott may be concerned that Texans will learn the truth about their Attorney General's complicity with the rest of the Republican Party's power-grabbing political hacks in their arrogant pursuit of one-party rule -- and well he should be.

Abbott is a disgrace to Texans. Our public face has been mighty embarrassing for the past few years, it is time to regain our self respect and put some people who actually represent Texan values into office.

We do know SCOTUS wouldn't have taken this case if they didn't see merit to it. They have reviewed it before.

I think Abbott is looking really bad coming down on the side of the culture of corruption, instead of representing the people of Texas. Can anyone name anything that Abbott has done that benefited the people of Texas? And I do mean the people and not corporations.

Abbott should be know as the Texas Attorney General for Corporate Defense. Even the republican party is essentially a corporation whose main purpose for existing is to maximize profits for their shareholders, the republican leadership.

...that's the whole deal with Abbott. The way he handles the job is as if the state of Texas were a corporation and he's their corporate defense lawyer. And even worse, he defines the corporation by its board of directors - the Republican Party political machinery.

Redistricting has to be taken out of the hands of the politically self-interested, no matter of what party. My estimate is that the SCT is going to use the Texas case as a major decision to try to push the country in that direction.

He's created a ridiculous and snarly mess, and several volunteers are going to be exposing examples of it during the coming election season.

Greg Abbott has been a disaster for Texans in about a hundred different ways, and he won't be able to run away from the stains of his incompetence and corruption any longer.

Will Abbott be the one to argue the case before the SC?

If so would he have to argue for or against?

If he argues for the redistricting wouldn't he be making himself vulnerable in the upcoming election?

By coming out with his statements, isn't he sorta showing us he's against minorities, i.e. that he's a racist?

David I think that you truly are a concerned Texan, who will help to restore some form of dignity back to our state.
Perhaps it will help to brighten that "big ass" Star on our state flag.
Because that Star has been tainted for way to long.
