IT'S A BIG PARTY IN AUSTIN RIGHT NOW
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 01:19 AM by bluestateguy
I live 5 miles from the UT campus, and I can hear the honking horns and people cheering in the streets outside. It's all over town, on the Drag, all over campus, on 6th street and all over town. It's one big party.

Wow.

I'm so proud of our boys at UT. I went to a quaint liberal arts college that had no football team. UT gave me a team to root for when I came to Austin. I will always be grateful to them for that. I rag on the political climate of Texas a lot, but the Longhorns will always be my team.

3. Now I've got nothing against the Aggies
They've got a nice little football team.

10. Come on GOPisEviil, they're the Texas team this year
When your team bows out, and the other "home" town wins, you have to be proud of the Texas team. If the Aggies were the team, we Longhorns would be rooting for you too.

Why can't we have peace? Let's shake hands, say good game, and see you next year.

Hook'em Horns!

11. If I offered my support, I'd be a phony.
It was a great game, and I offer my congratulations, but this is how I feel: Imagine that you have a sibling that is fabulously wealthy, extremely good-looking and wildly popular. Now further imagine that sibling wins the powerball. Then everywhere you go, people remind you that your sibling won the powerball and gives you that sad, wistful look. That's what I'm feeling right now.

17. I'll give you a big hug GOPisEvil
And if I were your rich, great looking sibling, half of my powerball winnings too. Then you could be rich too, and you could do what ever you needed to be happy. We're all family. Think November, we'll be over it by then.

Think about this - we have to deal with Adios MoFo Perry and bu$h like we're on that same side. They'll be getting too much "congratulations" media coverage from those idiots. You can't hate us as much as we hate them.

Sonia

19. Oh I don't hate anyone.
I don't even dislike the university. I almost went there.

Believe me, the idiot Republicans are a million times worse than this will ever be.

6. We were part of that honking! :)
We watched the game at Ringers, then headed to the drag. Picked up T-shirts at Foleys on the way home. It was an amazing night -- I'm still watching ESPN just to soak up more of it.

Oh, and GOPisEvil, we had an Aggie graduate at our table rooting for the Longhorns (even wearing burnt orange.) He's dating one of our daughters. ;)

8. Some Aggies show support
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 10:11 AM by melissinha
My Dad is an Aggie, says he had permission to cheer for "TU" for one day only.... but going to lib arts school, have to go with the local team ..... they deserve it!!! Boy everyone in the office is tired. I don't care if Dubya was cheering for UT... Hats off to Vince Young, that was really a spectacle!

Hell has certainly frozen over in Central Texas...about time!!

TAMU ungigs TU

TAMU unsaws TU horns

:headbang: its the TU sign afterall.....

12. Man, those guys are better than me.
I admit I'm being an asshole about it, but I can't say "Hook 'em" and mean it. It would be an empty, meaningless gesture.

Congratulations to the Longhorns though. They had a great year.

13. I understand how you feel.
I have no animosity toward Aggies but you won't catch me rooting for OU, even though they're a fellow Big 12 team. I'm glad they won their bowl game because it's good for the Big 12 so it's good for Texas but I wouldn't have rooted for them.

I admire your honesty and thanks for the congrats! :hi:

14. I don't wish the Longhorns ill.
I'm really tired of them being good at EVERYTHING. I posted above how I feel. I'm just feeling like the stepchild that's all. If I didn't live in Austin, and wasn't surrounded by that ugly orange (;)) I probably wouldn't care as much. But, I just feel like being a rebel and not going along with everyone else. }(

its always more fun.

I always feel the eyes of TU fans upon me when I buy gifts for my Dad... Oh well. There is a bog Aggie coalition in Austin ....

Did you see the book about the First Lady of TAMU? A nice coffee table book full of pictures of the most noble dog in the world, Miss Reveille. I tell you what my Dad will let me wear burnt orange, go to TU, but if I EVER name a dog BEVO, he'll disown me.

16. OK, I like Reveille and all...
...beautiful dog. But the coffee table book is a bit much. :) I had a couple classes with the cadet that is responsible for Reveille. She is the most well-behaved dog ever. Of course, if she barks during class, tradition says the class ends right then. I've only heard her bark at games (and attack opposing mascots).

18. ok ok
Guess I am cooky dog lover. To each his own.

So you never had a class ended by Reveille??? Damn! ;)

Wish my dog could get trained by the Vet Corps and quit her barking.

I'll stop the thread hijacking.... Congrats UT!

As a Trojan alum, I'm not a happy camper today.

But I can put things in perspective. Elephants are far more dangerous than longhorns.

Congrats (gulp) UT (stammer) Longhorns! :)

23. My $0.02
I am a Texas Exes Life Member, and I ALWAYS root for A&M over ANY out-of-state team. As burnt-orange-blooded as I am, being Texan trumps being a Longhorn. Let's face it, most years about 95% of the UT and A&M teams have come straight outta Texas high schools. I don't like A&M, but at least I can kinda see what they're excited about. Why on earth anyyone would ever get excited about being from Oklahoma is beyond me. :eyes:
