From Public Campaign Action Fund, RE: DeLay and teevee:
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 07:02 PM by babylonsister

Now Tom DeLay thinks he can control your television too.

Tom DeLay doesn't want his constituents to know about the $1 million Russian tycoons gave to a shadowy front group called U.S. Family Network, which was run by a former staffer. That's because the Washington Post discovered the Russian money was donated allegedly to influence his vote.

So, when Public Campaign Action Fund and Campaign for America's Future began running a TV ad - with your support - that educated people about this Russian money, DeLay threatened to sue any TV station that aired it. Click here to demand they put the ads back on the air!

The TV stations got scared and pulled the ad - even though FactCheck.org has said that everything in the ad is true!

DeLay's bullying has backfired (mostly) and the story of Tom DeLay's strong-arm tactics has been all over the news, including on national television, and has spread far and wide on the internet.

Yet the people of Houston are still being denied the opportunity to view the ad on the air, because the stations have let themselves be intimidated by DeLay and his lawyers.

That's why I'm writing.

This ad is a public service, and tells the truth behind a story DeLay's constituents have a right to hear. We need you to urge the local TV stations to do their job and air the ads.

Please take a minute and email the station managers at the four broadcast stations in Houston (KTRK, KHOU, KPRC, and KRIV) and urge them to put this ad back on the air. Ask your friends to send a message too!

Then, if you'd like, submit a letter to the editor of your local paper or the Houston Chronicle at viewpoints@chron.com. Make it a triple threat by giving a gift to Public Campaign Action Fund that allows campaigns like this to go forward.

We'll keep you up to date on the latest -- thanks for all you do.

David Donnelly
National Campaigns Director

Those TV stations should be playing fair and airing ads that are true. They exist only because they use the public airwaves. We should hold them accountable! Funny thing is that DeLay by fighting the ads, is just getting them more free exposure.

You can run DeLay, but you can't hide from your record.

On a related note OffTheKuff did a very good analysis on the vote strength for District 22 and related counties. It's called Campbell and Lampson and it provides some very good early numbers. I'll call it slow cooking DeLay's ass.

http://www.offthekuff.com/mt/archives/006676.html#006676

First, Fort Bend County does not hold most of CD22. It barely holds a plurality, based on votes cast in the 2004 election:

County Votes cast Pct
=========================
Fort Bend 109,829 40.3
Harris 109,565 40.2
Brazoria 31,053 11.4
Galveston 22,173 8.1

Harris County is at least as important to CD22 as Fort Bend is. Maybe we could get a quote from someone there once in awhile.

As for DeLay's support in Fort Bend, I don't question the assertion that the FBGOP is in his corner. We'll see what the primary voters have to say - it sure would look bad if DeLay doesn't win going away after all this tough talk and all these pro-DeLay resolutions, wouldn't it? - but sure, the establishment there is still holding Tom's hand.
