Sign the petition to support Sen. Kennedy's living wage bill
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 03:56 PM by Czolgosz
Senator Kennedy has sponsored a bill to increase the minimum wage in three steps to $7.25 an hour. He has asked us to sign on as citizen co-sponsors of his bill to show the broad base of support in the country for increasing the minimum wage.

Link: <http://ga3.org/campaign/minwagesupporter>.

Fair living wage laws have broad appeal in all traditionally Democratic demographics, but what BushInc. doesn't want the public debate to acknowledge is that fair living wage laws also have wide support among most traditional Republican sections (except among the corporatist-Abramoff-Enron-Halliburton GOP campaign financiers):

I signed and was happy to do so. It's really amazing that the GOP (mostly) have such a problem with letting the working class make a little extra money so they can feed and clothe their families, yet they don't have a problem voting for their own pay increases, not to mention all the bribe money they get from lobbyist. Like they really need the raise! Poor babies, can't afford to run the government without screwing the poor out of just a smidgin of extra money.

It would be interesting if we the people could control whether or not congress deserved a raise. I most certainly would block that vote every chance it came up for a vote.

Edit to include a K&R

I dont think raising it is needed or wise.

But I definately think that most elected public servants are payed way too damn much.

I think the consensus of most of this TX DU forum is that you're wrong on that position. You're of course entitled to your opinion.

5. True enough...
Still I feel the need to reiterate my opinion here. There can be no room for discussion if there is no dissent.

Maybe there are people out there who have similar opinions and choose not to voice them for fear of going against the "consensus," and if so well then hopefully my post will show that it is okay to disagree.

Or maybe I truely am the only one on this particular board who feels this way on this issue, either way its all good.

2. I support a raise in the minimum wage
I still also support a living wage, which is even better. But at the very least we need to raise the national minimum wage.
