Barbara Bush earmarked Katrina donation for son's company

HOUSTON — Former first lady Barbara Bush gave relief money to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund on the condition that it be spent to buy educational software from her son Neil's company.

A spokesman for former president George H.W. Bush would not disclose the amount earmarked for purchases from Ignite Learning.

Since Barbara Bush's gift, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight public schools with high numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Wow, who knew you could earmark money that went to a relief fund? Educational gifts are great and glad Babs gave money, but she could bankroll Neil's company without government or non-profit fund donations. No wait a minute that, wouldn't apply to the bush family. They live on the public dole.

1. OK, this makes me insane
I have actually been to meetings in Houston with science education leaders from school districts where they have salivated over this stuff. Neil Bush was at these meetings - post Katrina and Rita - touting how school districts could get his stuff for free. NO MENTION of how his mamma had ponied up the dough to make it happen.

This is how the rich get richer, folks.
