Delegation chair
I was elected as delegation chair from our county to the state convention This will be my first state convention. I still not clear on what a delegation chair is supposed to do. Any good advice would be welcome.

2. Bring a calculator!
At your senate district caucus, you'll be tallying up votes from your delegation.

And---congratulations! :hi:

3. From a someone that has been delegation chair a few times
from our County and chaired the senatorial district caucus at the convention a few times...

You are responsible for conducting your district caucus, making sure everyone gets their credentials, making sure all are aware of the different meetings/caucuses and especially your senatorial district caucus. Find out from your delegation in a democratic way if your county will vote unit rule (all votes cast one way for the entire county delegation) or if each delegate's vote is counted separately. I strongly suggest a unit rule for the sake of unity in your county.

Get in contact with your SDEC persons. They are your go-to persons for any questions related to the convention as well as anything else regarding the Texas Democratic Party.

PS... vote Charlie Jones for State Chair.

4. Unit rule is against party rules
e) Unit Rule. The use of the unit rule or the practice
of instructing delegations shall not be permitted
at any level of the convention process.

5. Hmmm.
Sounds like I need to write that on my hand with a sharpie on June 8th and show that to my delegation chair. We had a little commotion about this at my senate district convention on Saturday. Good to know.

7. Welcome to DU!
Can't help you much, either - I'm a brand new precinct chair, myself, but do give the TDP rules a good once-over. In fact, if you can, just print them out and take them with you in a binder to review at work, at lunch, during potty breaks, etc.

And, if you don't have a copy of the Tenth Edition of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised, grab a copy - or at least grab the official abridged version to get your feet wet. It may help a lot.
