Boyd Richie named Interim Chair of TDP
Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 06:28 PM by crispini
What a surprise. NOT.

April 22, 2006 at 13:18:37 MST
It's now official. We're waiting to hear what the vote count was and if anything unexpected happened.
Quorum Report has the headline, "SDEC NAMES BOYD RICHIE INTERIM DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR BY ACCLAMATION"

Yeah, I guess 'names' would be right. Wouldn't want to 'vote' on it. (pardon the snark). Also, Bob Slagle, former TDP chair for about 15 years or so, will be chairing the June convention. So considering that, why didn't we elect him or someone else who isn't a candidate for the June Convention vote on who's Chair of our Party?

1. Acclamation, eh?
I guess there are no disagreements about the direction of the party then.
:sarcasm:

3. Here's how it went down according the report by my
SDEC chairwoman:

The Nominations Committee held an open meeting (yes – you can come and watch). Glen Maxey was invited to speak at Nominations but he passed. Lakeshia Rodgers (LaRouche) did speak for 3 minutes. The only name placed in nomination by the committee was Boyd Richie and it was unanimous. At the General Session, Charlie Urbina Jones was nominated from the floor. He made a short speech about reaching out to our grassroots and then withdrew his name. At which point the SDEC elected Boyd Richie by acclamation. Boyd has earned the respect of the SDEC. He and his wife Betty (DNC) are hard grassroots workers. They know what it takes to win. Boyd has recently won several terms as County Attorney so he is experienced in campaigning and WINNING. Boyd told us to “Practice inclusion and show each other respect and respect to each voter.” He made it clear “It’s not about winning arguments, it’s about winning elections.”

I would say this indicates there are no disagreements within the SDEC. It's a stretch to assume the delegates to the convention will agree.

2. I suppose the upside...
of haveing Slagle chair the convention is that at least it won't be one of the candidates for chair. And Bob was a hoot chairing the last convention. There were a few voice votes on resolutions that Bob called the right way - it was kinda fun to watch.

But I agree...naming an interim chair who is also running for permanent chair is a BAD BAD BAD idea.
