The Republican prayer at the State Convention
Governor Perry began the Republican State Convention with the following prayer:

Oh lord, let us prey.
Let us prey on the teachers of the state, for they will continue to tolerate the abuse we bestow upon them.
Let us prey on the students, as we cut funding for their extra curricular activities.
Let us prey on the parents, as we shift taxes from one pocket to the other.
Let us prey on the weak, the old, and the poor for they cannot fight us.
Let us prey on the homeowners of the state as we continue to raise insurance rates.

And let us prey on the voters of the state of Texas who will re-elect us. For they know not what we are doing to them.

In your name we will prey.

1. "He is the chairman of this party" (referring to God)
That really was said at the Republican State Convention in San Antonio. This from the Dallas Morning News:

At Saturday morning's prayer meeting, party leader Tina Benkiser assured them that God was watching over the two-day confab.

"He is the chairman of this party," she said against a backdrop of flags and a GOP seal with its red, white and blue logo.

The party platform, adopted Saturday, declares "America is a Christian nation" and affirms that "God is undeniable in our history and is vital to our freedom."

"We pledge to exert our influence toward a return to the original intent of the First Amendment and dispel the myth of the separation of church and state," it says.

2. You were my inspiration for this sign last year
at Perry's symbolic church "signing" of the Prop 2 hate amendment.
