Bell collects more than Strayhorn, Friedman

$100,000 gift accounts for large part of candidate's donation report

AUSTIN - Democratic gubernatorial nominee Chris Bell reported collecting more than independent candidates Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman in his latest report, thanks in large part to a $100,000 donation from a late Houston oilman.

According to records filed Wednesday with the Texas Ethics Commission, Bell collected $333,212, more than the $307,534 reported by Strayhorn and the $149,132 by Friedman.

Bell's donations between April 17 and May 15, the period covered by Wednesday's filing, came close to the $375,021 collected by Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

The Legislature was in special session during the covered period.
