Public and politicians blast corridor project (DVO mention)
Victoria Advocate 8/11/06
Van Os then took his turn.

The candidate for attorney general commended the TxDOT staff for the professional and courteous way they handled their responsibilities during the meeting knowing they are dealing with something very unpopular with the public.

Then he blasted the project itself.

"This project, if followed through and completed as planned, will be one of the biggest single exercises of forcible eminent domain in the history of the entire United States," said Van Os. "We are talking about 1/2 million acres of private property, mostly good farm and ranch land. If this huge thing goes through, no eminent domain project will be off limits. It will be a big green light. Private property will lose its sovereignty. This forcible eminent domain will destroy the proper balance between the individual and government with respect to the individual's ability to control his or her own property." Van Os urged those in attendance to fight against the proposal, which he called the "first leg of a NAFTA highway."

"There is no legislation that can't be repealed, and no politician that can't be fired at election time," said Van Os. "This thing has got to be stopped. It will destroy many things that are precious to us. We're going to stop this. I know we're going to stop it. I urge you my fellow citizens to fight this dad gum thing till hell freezes over if you have to. Fight it and beat it."

Van Os' wife, Rachel, gave perhaps the most dramatic display of the possible affect of the proposed corridor as she ripped a Texas map along the proposed route.

"I urge y'all to stand and fight for your rights and save beautiful Texas," she said.

DVO's webmaster sent this article out to his list. Great coverage! Ripping up a Texas map - what a brilliant idea for visual impact.

David and Rachel rock. :yourock:

1. Not only are they ripping Texas in half and seizing Texan's land to
do it.... Then they are going to charge us to use this land and they are then gonna give this land to a foreign interest. I've got an idea... Why don't we just send the crazy fools who came up with this insanity off to Spain.. for good. That might fix a lot of things!!!

2. Hey I'd pitch in $20 to get MoFo Perry to move to Spain
Not that I hate Spain mind you. Just that it would get rid of our problem and they might straighten him out too.

3. Meet the next Vice President of Spain
At the TX-DOT/TTC hearing in Marlin, the County Judge of Falls County, whose Commissioners Court voted a unanimous resolution of opposition to the TTC, said during his public comment:

"Some people are speculating that Rick Perry might be a good candidate for Vice President in 2008. I think he would make an excellent Vice President......of Spain."

5. LMAO!!! I'm glad to hear folks in Texas are wise to Perry's BS.
After we get David Van Os in the AG's office maybe we can figure out how many laws these weenies are breaking and actually prosecute them for such behavior or at least warn them in advance that such behaviors are not legal.. If it is not against the law to give away control of the middle of our State to a foreign interest, it effing OUGHT to be!!!
