Yard Sign Vandalism - Fort Worth/Texas
I got the following e-mail this morning. It's nice to know the Compassionate Conservatives are worried in Texas....

I wanted to pass this on because I've seen more and more of this lately...The Fort Worth Star Telegram ran a story on it a few days ago

Subject: Yard Sign Advisory from Art Brender
Date: Sat, 18 Sep 2004 18:35:09 +0000

Dear Democrats,

Our office has received a rash of disturbing calls today regarding yard sign theft. By our estimate, last night hundreds of yard signs were stolen from yards primarily in the west side of Fort Worth. This appears to be an organized effort by people against Kerry to squash our right to free speech.

If you are one of the victims of yard sign theft, please RSVP this note with your name, address and phone number and the date and approximate time your sign was stolen or vandalized. We are trying to keep track of thefts and vandalisms. Also, please contact your local police department. They might not be able to catch the person/people who committed the crime, but it is important to have the event reported and recorded. Perhaps if the local police get enough of these reports, they will be able to collect enough evidence to make an arrest and figure out exactly who is behind this.

One final note, please do not retaliate in kind. Democrats do not resort to such base tactics. Let the law handle criminals.

PS: Some of the walkers today suggested writing your address on your yard sign stakes might deter crime. You might want to give that a try. Meanwhile, we are ordering more yard signs to keep up with the demand.

1. I'm just bringing mine in at night
I know I shouldn't have to, but I'll do what I can to keep my Kerry/Edwards sign. Most of the brownshirts aren't brave enough to steal them in the light of day.

2. Another tactic
is to spry the sign with PAM or any other of those cooking sprays. Makes it slick and difficult as well as messy and unpleasant to steal.

3. uummmmmmmm, maybe the Kerry-Edwards signs should be
sprayed w/ animal repellent instead of PAM. <tongue-in-cheek>

4. Try poison Ivy/Oak
Put on your latex gloves and crush the leaves to extract the oil. Smear liberally on the top, sides, and posts. Any vandal will be too busy itching to think of continued acts of agression. I would never steal anyone's BC04 sign, but I might relocate it to a more prominent location. Two choices would be beneath a stop sign or wrong way highway sign on a high traffic street.

8. I think poison ivy or poison oak
is simply uncalled for. Same with pepper spray. Yeah, those who steal or vandalize the signs are scum, but if you inflict the kind of damage you're suggesting, you're even worse than they are.

It is good. Let them itch!

I like the fireants as well. Plant your sign in the middle of a colony. Yep, that should do it!!

5. sign wars.......
This guerilla tactic has always been used in political campaigns, but the level of hostility and destruction seems to be at an all time high.

Tips on protecting your Kerry sign, oily goo is good, add some glitter or metal shavings. Sprinkler. Fireants. Video.

Things are calm so far in my little 92% republican north texas county. Haven't seen a sign or a bumper sticker yet. Something weird is going on.

6. It's escalating here.
We've had vicious remarks scrawled on our yardsigns (and our 4 X 4 Kerry signs) and then dumped in front of our headquarters. They are very disturbing. We even had someone drive their pickup truck into the yard of an 80 year old couple and mow down their Democrat signs. The couple stood watching in their kitchen window, horribly frightened.

I'll post pictures later.

Those poor people!
They did nothing whatsoever to deserve that! I hope they got the license plate number of the evil Nazi wingnuts who trashed their yard and reported them to the police, even though the police probably won't do anything about it. :grr: :nuke: :grr: :nuke:

10. Thought y'all would enjoy this one.
This is a 4 by 4 foot sign in the yard of an 88 year old woman. It's on a busy corner and gets lots of traffic.

She came out one fine morning to find this done. She wants to leave it up. Bush / Edwards? She claims this is final proof that NOBODY likes Cheney!

(I put it on the end on my column this week. Which you might enjoy because it's about Tom DeLay - http://www.brazosriver.com/delayindict.htm )

12. I'd put a honkin piece of plywood up next to it
saying "Conservative Christians, My ASS!" with an arrow pointing to it, of course.
