Travis County registration up 35% over 2000
The latest numbers indicate 35 percent more people in Travis County are registered to vote now than four years ago.

"It is, by far, the highest number of any presidential election, in terms of the number of applications that we're receiving this early. We expect this, but we expect it closer to the deadline, not quite in the middle of September," Dolores Lopez, director of the county's voter registration division, said.

Ninety percent of Travis County's voting age population has already registered. Lopez believes the reasons are two-fold.

"The candidates, themselves, bring a lot of attention to the campaigns, to the election itself. And also in Travis County, we have a large number of volunteer deputies that go out to register voters. They've been out to the Austin City Limits Festival. They are just out there doing a heck of a lot of work in this short amount of time," Lopez said.

Ninety percent already registered? Can this be true? I suppose it explains why it's harder and harder to register new voters...

2. This time Kerry will win Travis County
Why? Because the the Nader voters will come back. I have only seen one Nader bumper sticker around town all year long. Almost all of the Nader voters I know locally are back in for Kerry this year. One or two are wavering, but where will they go. NADER IS NOT ON THE BALLOT IN TEXAS.

3. Travis/Austin is most liberal white county in Texas
It is really the only area in Texas where there is a large concentration of white liberals. Lot of students there, too. UT is an enormous sschool.

THis is a good indication of how fired up white liberals are for this election.

4. and how many of these new voters are counted in the polls?
I'm betting if there are that many, they aren't voting for Bush.
